My husband and I got quotes from several roofing companies. Blue Ribbon was the only company who came out to do the estimate when they said they would and return the written estimate on time. They were also the only company who told us that we had 2 layers of shingles; all the others said we only had 1 and would have put on a 3rd layer! We had some trouble deciding on which color to choose. Neil came out (again) and gave us a sample book and had the office give us addresses to look at different colors of roofs. He was very patient. They weren't the cheapest and we were slightly hesitant about the price, but it turns out they were well worth it.
The work was scheduled to start on the Thursday before the hurricane, on a day that we were forecasted to have rain. We were worried that they were going to just rush through the job but they decided to reschedule until the following week.
The actual roofers were there on time (no later than 8:00) and worked until almost 6:00, despite not having power. They were very diligent and honest. They found a couple of badly damaged pieces of plywood and took my husband up to the roof to show him. The flashing and weather proofing process they use is great. The house looks totally transformed and we are so much more confident in the safety of our house. I love the fact that not only is the product guaranteed for life, but that their workmanship is guaranteed, too, and that they come out a year after the job is done to inspect it. We will need to have the house resided in the coming years and I would have the utmost confidence using them again.
The window people came and replaced seven windows.The window crew did a great job and I was very happy with their professionism.
The gutters and leaders were installed and looked good.The posts for the porch were installed but were not right,they moved. In other words they were not mounted securely.They had no experience in replacing posts and therefore should not have agreed to do this portion of the project.
Before I made my final payment I noticed that when it rained the water was leaking in this one corner between the gutter and the soffit.I requested that they fix it.They sent someone and he put this one foot by one foot aluminium "sail" in the valley because they said too much water was coming down at this point.I pointed out that this happened if it was only drizzeling.They came back and replaced it with a smaller piece of metal.At this point they requested the final payment and assured me that if this was still a problem they would take care of it immediately.I paid them.When it rained lightly the same problem was still there.To make a long story short it took two weeks of me calling everyone in that company to get someone to come and figure out the problem and fix it.
As far as I am concerned, they blew it.I understand that there are problems in any project but I found out that if you make your final payment you have no levegage.
I worked with them through the whole project and would have been happy to give them an excellent rating if at the end they did not forget you after you made your final payment.I would also like to say that if you tell a customer people are coming at a certain time and they are delayed that you call that customer let him know of the delay.After all it only takes a phone call.
UPDATE: 6/27/11
I received a call from the owner of Blue Ribbon after he read my report on Angie's List.He was very concerned about what he read.I explained that overall his people did a very good job and I was very happy with the end result.The problem was with the communication and their response after the job was finished.He assured me that they would implement new procerures so that this would not happen again.I believe him and therefore would like to change my rating and also say that I would now recommend them to other homeowners.
