We had received a septic certification on a home that we are buying saying the system has passed but saw no evidence that the septic lid had even been opened (ground dug up). My husband called Mr DiMatteo to discuss the inspection. We were told that because of the type of system(dousing) at that house he induced 1,000 gallons of water into the tank (more than the 600 gal required) and then looked through the broken caps to see the water level and that everything appeared to be working fine. Mr DiMatteo never did an actual visual inspection on either of the tanks. When we asked Mr DiMatteo about the broken caps and why they weren't mentioned or required to be fixed he told us that that part wasn't his job that the caps should have been reorted by the home inspector. I did in fact call the home inspector and ask about them. The home inspector says no the septic inspector is responsible for reporting on broken caps in the septic field. The sellers real estate agent was called and questioned about the certification and was asked about Mr DiMatteo's qualification to do a septic certification and the phrase "porch inspection" was said by the real estate agent. We have yet to hear back from the sellers real estate agent about qualification. Because there is now a passing septic certification "and that's all we have to have" my husband and I had to go and find someone to come and inspect the septic system @ our expense.
