I spent about $2500 on materials for a bathroom renovation. The GPS prices were not compelling, but the ease of getting so many
things in one place made me commit to the outfit. I came to regret that decision.
I explained to my salesperson that I had only one full bathroom in my house. I wanted to start construction with all supplies in hand to minimize down time. I was assured we had a workable time window. But then ?
1) The delivery service (which costs $80) leaves much to be desired. At the first delivery, heavy equipment was left AT THE CURB, leaving me to figure out how to get the tub, etc. into my house. At the second delivery, the driver balked at removing the materials from the truck! (More about this below.)
2) Most of my order was placed on July 7, 2014. I had to special order a vanity countertop and sink. I placed that order at 9AM on Tuesday July 15, 2014. GPS promised delivery in two weeks, so we fixed our construction start date accordingly.
GPS did not process my vanity order until July 18, 2014?a Friday. That pretty much set the order back a full week. When, after four weeks, we still had no countertop or sink. GPS promised to call the company and demand expedited shipping. Nothing came of it.
It took nearly six weeks to get the vanity top and sink into my home. And when the countertop arrived, it was damaged. That meant that the completion of my bathroom was delayed first by the late order, and now, for the time it is taking me to get a replacement counter top and sink.
3) Our vanity top was delivered late on a Friday afternoon. The driver was working alone and was unprepared to remove the item from its packing crate and get it off the truck. Instead, the driver actually corralled one of my neighbors to help him get the heavy crated vanity top and sink into my house. Once in the house, the driver did not want to uncrate the item. It took a phone call to GPS to get the driver to unpack the counter top and sink.
As the plastic came off the vanity top, we saw that the product was noticeably scratched. The driver ?denied? seeing any damage. Luckily, my plumber was there to corroborate the damage. At that point, the driver wanted the two female homeowners to help him move the damaged item back onto the truck. Luckily, our dear plumber lent a hand and stayed with us through this ordeal. He felt the driver had a ?serious attitude problem? and our plumber did not want to leave us alone with him.
I had two smaller gripes as well:
1) Full payment was demanded before the receipt of ANY material. Our salesperson said this was company policy because the company does not want drivers handling money. OK?I understand the risks of carrying cash, but even the smallest of vendors can use Ipads and Squares to take payment.
2) Only AFTER payment was made was I told of GPS? NO Returns policy.
I have since heard that the Edison office of GPS provides much worse service than the other GPS locations. But after this experience, I doubt I would feel comfortable using the company again?no matter where the location.
