This company is an absolute scam. When they estimated the cost for my heater repair, they quoted me around $1,700 and said, at most, it could increase by $100. However, at the end of the job, they handed me paperwork listing the total as $2,400—without ever mentioning an additional $700 charge. Thankfully, I caught it before signing and confronted the technician. After some back and forth, I called the company, and we agreed to stick to the original price. I thought the issue was resolved, but two weeks later, they charged my card for the additional amount anyway. When I called to dispute it, they claimed the original price conversation never happened. This company will either sneak in hidden charges or blatantly try to overcharge you. Beware!

I’m trying to be objective here. Ordered heater replacement, the actual plumber assessed additional expansion tank needed, which I don’t think was needed, never had any pressure related problems. It was 10 times the value of the expansion tank to get that accessorial, so very overpriced but whatever. Than there was no warranty card with it, nobody knows who warranties it. Plumber says 5 years warranty, 1-800 Heaters says 1 year and hear that 1 MONTH WARRANTY ON LABOR. It’s a scam like any other plumber service in terms of upsell without a quote for extras, just installed them and too bad - you gotta pay. Install itself was quick and clean.

800 Heaters was extremely responsive and did a great job. I called late the night before and their team responded back right away in the evening, and then very early the next morning to schedule someone to come right out. They were punctual and efficient and professional. The technician who came to my house was Rick and he is amazing! Very knowledgeable, friendly, experienced and he did an outstanding job, he should get a raise.

I believe the company is unethical by suggesting unneeded services and products. in addition the prices were inflated. some of the issues were: punching a hole in the foundation for vent pipe $600, replace shut-off valve $125, Expansion tank and PRV valve $600, all of these were Not necessary. Tech said 40 gal heater would not fit, so I could only have 30 gal, which is insufficient for my needs. company offered $600 items for $400 if I sign up "today only". a trick of a hustler. also $93 for permit, which was not required, by new law March 2018. All tradesmen and homeowners should know that now all "replacement " type work electrical, plumbing, etc no longer requires permit by NJ State law. I found another plumber who was not inexpensive, but efficient and expert who did the job for $1315 compared to the unethical $2400 price 1-800 Heaters wanted. Society today shames those abusing senior citizens such as I, and people in dire needs such as water heater. The tech was Josh. He called his manager about 5 times during the visit to get advice and prices to my objections to constant upselling of service and price. He was trying to help me but the boss was relentless. Water heater replacement takes about 1 hr. and new heaters cost $500. Labor therefore is approx. $800/hr. plus travel. Know This is hugely profitable business, with many wanting it. you do not need the skill of a licensed plumber, where I do respect their professional talent. conclusion: i'm not counting their money but I do count mine, and integrity counts the most.

I don't know when my water heater started leaking but I noticed it on Tuesday evening. Went to Lowe's on Wednesday evening, purchased a heater and scheduled the installation (supposedly on Thursday / Friday). Lowe's installer never called, water heater burst on Thursday afternoon. Called Lowe's again (Friday) and was told my original installer couldn't make it out until sometime next week. Lowe's called other installers and the first appointment was for the next Monday - so a total of 4 days without hot water. Called Home Depot at 12PM on Friday and they used 1-800-heaters. They called back and showed up by 3PM. The installer realized the current water heater (Rheem) was still under warranty (10 years old and 12 year warranty). Just charged labor to install (water heater was replaced free). Not many companies would be honest about that !!!! Installer did a great job - would highly recommend !!!

I needed my water heater replaced quickly. I was lucky enough to speak to Rebecca(ask for her if you do call in), she knew everything that goes into an install. She asked the right questions to be able to give me an accurate all-inclusive quote. Their price was a few $$'s more than the next best competition but it was worth it. There were no surprise charges at the end of the work. Anthony and Rich came out to do the install. They were excellent. Anthony had not spent many years in this industry yet was very knowledgeable, confident of what he was doing and patient with my questions. If you can do request for him. They did a clean, good job. This is the second time i am using them and i feel my experience was better this time around. They did say to call them if i ran into any issues. Since this is day one of the install, i have nothing to say about their post customer service but if i do have to follow up with them, i will surely post an update here. Less

Referred by Home Depot. They called me. 15% cheaper than my usual plumber. Made convenient appointment. Showed up on time. Clean, courteous, professional. Takes all credit cards. No attitude, no problems. Mike V. did a great job. Would have no problem using him again.

tDid not install it up to code and than when it failed inspection, I had to pay them $175.00 to fix it. I was forced to pay to fix it as I could not hold up the closing on the condo. Refused to refund the money. Said I told them to do it that way. I know NOTHING about hot water heaters. What a ridiculous thing to say.

I just bought a new home and before I moved in my water heater leaked all over. So much for the home inspection that said it had a few more years in it. I called 1800 Heaters. I used them about 10 years ago too.  I could not be there because I was away for work.  I called at about 11 am and they had a plumber at my house in about two hours.  My realtor let them in. The plumber called me to express that there were some problems with my exhaust but that the fix was easy. He quoted me an additional $185 dollars to replace the entire vent because it was too small and was so week that he put his finger through it. Again thanks home inspector. I paid for everything over the phone once the job was complete. I think it took about two and a half hours. Thanks.

Selected a Performance Platinum Rheem gas water heater from Home Depot to replace a 17 yo State unit. Unit retails for $746 and has a 12 yr manufacturer's tank and parts warranty and a 3 year labor warranty.  I chose the model without the electrical vent fan to assure that hot water would be available .during power outages.
Called the 1-800-Home Depot number and asked for an installation estimate. 1800 heaters called back within an hour and scheduled a home inspection the next day with a 4-hr window. They provided a verbal estimate of $1500.
Two knowledgeable and professional workmen arrived as promised, inspected the existing installation, noted two potential code problems (gas piping and vent) and quoted $1,514. Price included their obtaining a township permit ($30,), procurement and transport and installation of the new unit and removal/disposal of old unit.
They shut off the water supply, hooked up their pump and garden hose and drained the unit thru my garage to the driveway.  ( My house is on a slab and has no basement, sump or slop sink).  They had the proper copper fittings for the water piping, replaced the offending flex gas connection with a code-compliant steel pipe cut to size.  They filled the new unit, lit the pilot,  adjusted the temperature setting and cleared the lines.
When everything was to their satisfaction their senior plumber, Ralph T., provided a full explanation of what they had done. Identified the gas and water shutoffs and took me thru the pilot protocol and sensor operation so that I was comfortable handling any future emergency.  ...

Great. I had to call from Georgia and have the heater replaced for my disabled brother in law in New Jersey as he returned from Christmas holidays with me. They were prompt and allowed me to control the situation form my Georgia residence.

This was done as a sub-contractor to Home Depot (who then subbed the job out to 1-800-Heaters, who hired AKT Installations of East Hartford, CT.

Dumb & Dumberer arrived at my house more than hour late.

The water heater had a small dent in it and they arranged to give me a $50 credit for that.

They chipped my deck stair bringing the new water heater in.

They dripped rusty water on my carpet taking the old one out ("nah, we don't need a drop-cloth!")

They put rubber marks on the carpet from the under-inflated tires of the dolly ("nah, we don't need a drop-cloth!")

I was able to scrub both out with carpet cleaner (they offered, but by then I did not trust them)

They disconnected my washing machine discharge hose from the drain pipe so that they could pump out the old water heater, and forgot to put it back in when they left, so that we got 1 1/2 inches of water in our basement the next time we did laundry!

I called Home Depot for some consideration, but they put me off to 1-800-Heaters, who said I had to call the installer. (NOTE: The whole idea of using Home Depot was to NOT get this kind of run-around!.)  I eventually got to someone at the installer after a few phone calls with no callback.  They did offer to have somebody come and clean up the basement, but I had already done it by then.  They did refund most of the installation charge.

They did a good job installing the water heater. They were very careful, efficient and they did not take a long time. There was a technical problem that they could not deal with right away because some little piece of equipment broke. They came back the very next morning and fixed that right away. They were in and out quickly and did a neat job. They were reliable and responsive too, and they were better than other prices that I got. They had to pay $100 for permit to the city and the service itself was $500.
