EMPIRIAN PROPERTY MANAGEMENT

Empirian Property Management operates several apartment complexes in the Columbus area, as well as in various locations in Ohio and across the country. Another parent and I rented an Empirian Property Management apt for our college students. Prior to vacating, leasing agent told my daughter the check would have to be sent to our home address since she was first on the lease. However, she claims that the move-out statement was sent to the other student's home and was returned. The address leasing agent quoted to me is an accurate address, so it doesn't make sense that she would have gotten it returned, and it makes no sense that she told my daughter the check would have to mailed to her but she really sent it another place. Even if it was returned by the post office, she had our address in the file and could have simply mailed out as she had told my daughter. She also had our home phone number from the original paperwork. Bottom line is that she could have contacted by mail or phone if she wanted to. The leasing agent has indicated that the check has not been issued and she can't say when it will be. It is impossible to talk with anyone other than leasing agents and they are of no help. They only want to take your money, not help you get any back. They give you the help desk number, but no one ever answers and the voice mailbox is full so you can't leave a message. I have emailed off the Empirian website and no one has responded. This company has a few names and it is impossible to find out any contact information other than leasing agents. In addition, they are deducting $125 for cleaning the carpets. The carpet was not stained or dirty as the leasing agent claims. When I questioned her as to where the stains were, she would not say where the spots were located. She just said she has been doing this for fourteen years. The girls were hardly ever home since they both had heavy class loads and jobs.They had to clean the carpet after the girls moved in the apartment because it smelled like animal. I doubt the carpet was ever cleaned after the previous tenant moved out. I question whether they actually cleaned the carpet as we were charged, or if this charge is a way to make up the money they had to spend on the front end. She told me I could dispute this charge, and would not tell me who I could contact to do so. I attempted to have a leasing agent walk-thru the apartment the day I moved my daughter out. There was no one in the office during the four hours I was there packing and loading. My daughter indicated that there was hardly ever anyone in the office. Leasing agent says that she has to conduct her business with Empirian through email or by calling the help desk. She offered no other contact information for me to follow through on the refund check or the disputed carpet cleaning. As it stands now, Empirian thinks this process can be opened ended and that the consumer is not entitled to any timeline or explanation. I would not ever rent from an Empirian property again.
