home. He also, replaced 1 sidewalk broken concrete. The work was completed almost 2 years ago. He told me the concrete was solid and would last as long as the township sidewalk. He never mentioned or educated me on the effect of salt
on the concrete he installed during the winter season. Well, in less than 2 years after paying $1600 for the job, everything has fallen apart to my surprise. The township concrete sidewalks despite multiple salt applications are intact. The one George replaced has become like sand. I called George in the Spring of 2014 and he told me to contact him in the summer. I called him this summer and he is telling me to call him in the Fall because he is busy. George's explanation was that I should not have used salt during the winter. I countered his point by saying that we live in NJ/north east, how can we avoid salt in the winter. I questioned George to tell me why the township sidewalks and concrete have been there for many years and despite multiple salt applications they still look new and solid. The township concretes are much older than those he installed 2 years ago. He just told me for the first time, the concrete he used was of low quality and salt cannot touch them when it snows. Low quality? That is a shock to me. I didn't ask for low quality to pay $1600 for nothing? He said what he installed was just regular concrete not the real one? Meanwhile, he never told me he was going to install inferior concrete. If he had informed me at the time I gave him the contract , I would have gone to home depot and buy myself regular concrete and pay myself the
$1600 and do my own job. I was shocked to hear from George that when he comes to repair/replace the damaged concrete he installed, I would be responsible for the cost of the mess he made. Is this how to treat customers fairly? I was
hoping to hear that he would be stopping by sooner than the Fall/winter 2014, to at least take a look at it and replace the concrete/sidewalk to meet standard, at no extra cost to me. Right now, it is unsafe for pedestrians to walk and if someone falls and hurt themselves who is responsible? George and GS best, LLC responsible or myself. I do not see the and quot;BESTand quot; in GS BEST, LLC. I want to ask George, why do you operate your business under false pretense and in a deceitful manner? Why didn't you tell me there were different types of concrete, some that can withstand all weather conditions including salt and some that can be blown away by drizzle or common showers like the one he did? I don't deserve apprentice work; I deserve professional work and you should be straight forward with your customers. I am totally disappointed with your excuses, explanations and I feel like you stole the $1600 from me since I need to replace the entire work you did again. Please in the future treat your customers with respect, dignity and with the truth. Tell your customers the type of concrete you use cannot last 1-2 winters and the concrete you use is weak. This way each customer can decide which direction to take. Failure to disclose all that information to your customers is just unfair and taking people’s money for poor service.
The driveway was a two-week job. The men were on the job site by about 8:30 every morning and put in a full day's work--as allowed by the elements (rain, excessive heat and humidity, etc). The job site was left clean every day. George was a good communicator, and raised areas of concern before they became an issue. It was a largely collaborative process. When I had an adjustment to ongoing work, it was handled expeditiously. Otherwise, we stayed out of his way and he and his guys moved forward in a workmanlike fashion. The work was completed to spec.
George made sure that all of the landscaping was returned to the condition it was in before the job began, and repaired damaged areas of the lawn with topsoil and grass seed.
Overall, we found GS Best to be an excellent, reliable contractor. He went above and beyond what was necessary to complete the job satisfactorily. I would use him again in a heartbeat. I'll report back in a year and let you know how the job held up.
HIs price was fair, but we hired George because as owner of his company he is on site doing the work along with his employees and stands by his work.
I got to pick the paving stones and the design from a catalog(came out beautifully)
George said that he could start in a couple of weeks and was able to give us a date with in that time frame. One of his jobs was running overtime and he called right away to let us know. The new date was just a couple of days difference.
Our old sidewalk leading to the front steps had settled causing an 18in drop between step and sidewalk. My husband did not want to put another step into the sidewalk. George came up with a solution. He gradually graded the sidewalk so it gently sloped
up to the first step. George also came up an idea to curve the sidewalk for more architectural interest. He had us look at the design first before he poured. (looks beautiful).
He flashed by the front door before pouring concrete to ensure no more water infilteration.
The finished product is beautiful and our neighbors joke that it is like a roman ruin. Long after our houses are gone. Those new stairs will still be standing.
I have recomended GS BEST LLC to my friends and neighbors and will hire him again if I need any mason work done.
