Foundation, Basement or Crawlspace Waterproofing / Encapsulation
$27,000
Hiring All Jersey Masonry & Construction is one of my biggest regrets. We hired John and his team to waterproof the basement, secure our foundation, and seal our chimneys. Total cost was $27,000. Unfortunately, we are still getting water in the crawlspace of our basement. See photos attached--taken on 3 different days. There have been no responses to emails, texts, or calls. The "30 year warranty" is useless if they don't ever return. There is much more to be said, but I have already filed my complaint to the BBB and Consumer Affairs. Long story short--DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Brick, Stone or Block Wall - Repair

Sorry John I know our understanding was that if I could not give a 5-star review, I wouldnâ t leave a review at all. However, I feel morally obligated to share my bad experience with All Jersey Masonry & Construction, especially realizing that the excellent reviews you ask for can be deceiving. His reviews were great, except for those on Home Advisor. First, I would like to acknowledge that the workers did a great job. Unfortunately, Everything else was a very bad experience. Hereâ s my story: I had brick steps that were sinking, so John came to assess the situation. He gave a monologue stating how lucky I was that the steps did not need to be replaced for the cost would be $15K. He kept repeating this point over and over and then said how lucky I was that he could repair the steps for a â special priceâ of $4,400. I laughed at him to myself for this sales pitch really made him sound like an amateur but I wanted to get this done before the bad weather set in, so I agreed. Within an hour of starting the work, John informed me the steps were so bad that the mason who replaced them 30 years ago should be sued. He claimed that the steps had sunk an additional inch, then changed to half-inch in the last week â lol. He then spent several minutes repeating how bad they were until I interrupted him, telling him he was going around in circles and what was his point. He told me that the steps needed replacement, and after some negotiation, the new cost would be $12,000. He got me. I felt backed into a corner and reluctantly agreed. An hour and ten minutes later, after clearing my head, I called him back and asked to stop work because I wanted to get another estimate. I was told it is too late - the materials had already been ordered and were ready for pickup. I felt there was nothing I could do at that point. When the guys werenâ t on site, I obtained two other estimates: one was for $8K and the other 6K. Based on the before photos I was told that John should have known the steps would likely need a complete replacement. The original contract I signed was for a total of $4,400. The new price we agreed upon was $12,000. When it came time to write the check, John said it was $12,800, explaining that the extra $800 was tax â even though tax was never listed in the contract. I had assumed the tax was included since there was no line item for it. John stated that tax need not be listed in the contract for one should assume there would be a tax charge. I asked for a final invoice. The next day, I told John I hadnâ t received the invoice by email. He of course claimed it had been sent. I then asked him to mail it to me, but I never received it. I have not heard from him since but he would most likely say it was lost in the mail. What John did was a Bait-and-Switch tactic. He first made a big fuss planting a seed with the high price of 15K to replace the steps. Next, he made it seem like a great deal that he could repair them for $4,400, a fraction of the cost. By doing this he had to know the steps would ultimately need replacing. Johnâ s overly dramatic, elementary sales pitch should have raised red flags. Now that I look back I should have realized this. This was my fault for not only falling for a stereotypical used car sales pitch but also for not taking the time to get other estimates. Let the Buyer Beware! Donâ t be as stupid as I was.

Brick, Stone or Block Wall - Repair
$8,000
We first contacted All Jersey Masonry and Construction on Tuesday April 30th to take down 15 rows of brick and install a new flue. They came out for an estimate and seemed nice enough. On May 3rd the project was â complete.â There was concrete in the gutters, broken bricks in my garden, the mortar was cracked and the chimney was completely crooked. We sent pictures to the company and they said they would come back to fix it. Since I did not hear from him for two weeks, I sent follow up pictures on May 19th and requested a date for them to come back out as promised. They came back a month later on June 11th and somehow did an even worse job. There were crooked ends, missing mortar, concrete on my driveway and a huge pile of broken brick left in front of my house on the lawn. My wife and I picked up the bricks and stacked them neatly Again, I called and sent photos. The owner was extremely apologetic and said he would send his â good guysâ this time. On July 8th our landscapers cleaned all of the debris from the lawn since we still hadnâ t heard when the work would be finished. On July 22nd they finally finished the job. Our gutters are still filled with concrete and we are waiting for them to come back again to clean them out but we will not be holding our breath. This was a miserable experience overall and I would not recommend this company to anyone for anything.

WARNING! UNPROFESSIONAL and UNTRUSTWORTY CONTRACTOR! Hired All Jersey to rebuild my chimney from the roof up. The 1st day they show up about 10AM with 1 laborer, but no tools/materials. They leave the laborer in front of my house & go to get the tools & materials. It was 2 hrs before they returned. Around noon, the laborer starts demolishing the original chimney. He then began the rebuild, but only got half done before they left for the day. I looked at the progress & immediately had concerns with the quality of the work. It was crooked & I could tell that some mortar joints between the bricks didnt look right. I dont think he even used a level at all when laying the bricks! I sent a photo to John, who quoted me the job & I assume is one of the owners. He told me not to worry because the laborer isnt done yet & hell be back tomorrow to continue. The next day, the same laborer finishes the rest of the chimney. I take a look & its completely unacceptable. Still crooked & still has mortar joints that make it clear he didnt have any experience laying bricks. Johns reassurances from the night before were worthless. John agreed it was unacceptable & that they would need to redo it. It was well into the afternoon when they began demolition for the 2nd time. I kept wondering when they were going to call it a day, but they never did. Clearly, they were rushing to get done because they didnt want to come back for a 3rd day. What had originally taken 2 days, they were trying to redo in a few hours. By the time they finished it was already dark, so I wasnt able to get a good look at the chimney. Of course, with the job finished, John was looking to get paid. I held up my end and paid cash, in full, despite not having a good opportunity to inspect the work. John provided no receipt and I had to follow up the next day to get one. He even had the audacity to request a 5-star review from me! After seeing the 2nd attempt in the daylight, it was even worse! Same issues as the 1st time, but now there was also a gaping hole at the top where they blended the mortar between the bricks and the top of the flue. There was also debris from the demolition all over my front yard & back deck. I dont even think they made an attempt to clean up! The laborer also spilled cement on my walkway, splashed cement all around my hose bibb, left his lunch receipt in my gutter and a bottle cap on my front lawn. I called John to inform him that the 2nd chimney was also unacceptable. I told him that Id lost all faith in his company and that Id like a refund. He reluctantly agreed, but said he wanted his bricks back. Very petty considering its about $100 worth of bricks, which now have pieces of mortar stuck to them. Unfortunately, John isnt a man of his word. Every time I called about my refund, he gave some excuse why he couldnt pay & asked for more time. He even suggested a payment plan because he didnt have enough money to pay the full refund! What kind of fly-by-night company is this? If I paid in full, why cant you issue a full refund? I really dont believe he didnt/doesnt have the funds. He simply doesnt want to return my money. At the time of this writing, its been 5 months since I paid John. In that time, Ive gotten lots of excuses from John, but very little of my refund. He made a small payment on 2 occasions. Both times required too many reminders & follow ups. He would tell me he was going to pay on a certain day, but that day would come and go with no payment. Id remind him a day or 2 later and hed assure me that hed make the payment that night. Again, no payment & I had to remind him again. Essentially, I had to fight tooth and nail to get the small amount he actually paid. In total, I received less than 25% of my refund, and then I just got more excuses...

Interlocking Pavers for Patios, Walks & Steps Installation
Avoid! Weâ re redoing the patio because Johnâ s work was so shotty. The grading wasnâ t done properly - there were dips in the center of the patio and then a too dramatic slope near the entryway. The square around the tree was uneven with lots of small awkwardly cut paver pieces around it. Didnâ t put down adequate interlocking sand and was literally pouring out 13 ounce bottles of water to seal it!? He straight up lied to me about various things (claimed choosing a â newâ paver would cost more money, then realized the pavers I wanted were actually the ones we originally decided on together. It was clear he just wanted to squeeze more money out of me. Agreed to put down landscaping fabric. When we tore it up there was none). Charged me more so that there would be adequate drainage - I feel that should have been included in the original quote and he didnâ t communicate that clearly. Just sloppy work and absolutely terrible, unprofessional communication.
