Mark and his crew were punctual and professional. He explained the process and what to expect and followed through to completion. They even relocated my sump pump from an improper location, filled it in and put the pump where needed to be.

Mark was on time and very professional. I had told him on the phone, before we met, that I was not looking to put a french drain or sump pump in the basement, as I was not ready to spend $$ on the house, for several reason, but he still agreed to come out and look at things. I thought that was extremely nice of him to do so. He spent almost a 1/2 hour assessing it and providing me with DIY recommendations to improve or eliminate the water getting into my basement. He did not try to sell me anything... just provide recommendations. Not too many people do that these days. If/when I need help, I will definintely call on Mark and will recommend him to anyone who has a water issue.
Description of Work: Mark assessed my situation where I get water in an area of the basement when we have heavy rains.

We were completely satisfied with the company's work. The owner/operator, Mark, was professional yet very friendly. He explained everything to us very well and we had no qualms about his work. Since having the work done, we've had zero trouble with water in our basement. We live in flood-prone Manville. We are not in the flood zone, but no matter where you are in Manville, water is a problem. Even more, to reroute a section of our sump pump drain pipe, he charged us a fraction of the price that the original company that had installed the pipe was going to charge us to reroute it. The original company had it draining in a bad place in our yard. To reroute it, they wanted 4 figures. Mark rerouted it for $200. We would definitely recommend Central Jersey Waterproofing Specialists, and we would use the company again without hesitation.
Description of Work: Installed French drain in our basement. Rerouted sump pump drain pipe.

Central Jersey Waterproofing is quite simply, one of the best companies I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. Over the past few years, I have had problems with water seeping into my basement through the walls during hard rains. Furthering the problem, was the fact that I had no type of drainage or sump in my basement. After doing some research on how to attack the problem, I decided that an internal french drain around the perimeter of my basement was the way to go. I received estimates from 4 different contractors to do the same work wich were ridiculously over-inflated, some of which quoted me over $20,000. Thankfully I knew from online research that this was absurd. Then I contacted Mark over at Central Jersey Waterproofing. And the thing about Mark is that he's a just a really nice guy who knows his trade really well. No gimmicks, no sales pitches, he knew exactly what I needed and gave me the best price on how I can get it done. His estimate not only knocked away the competition, but he also offers a transferable guarantee to anyone else that owns your house. To me, that is a mark of someone who does good work. The whole project only took about 4 days (see services performed for details)... and let me tell you... it was so worth it. I haven't had a drop of water in my basement since. And I now feel confident enough to finish my basement without fear of it flooding.

The owner (Marc) stayed on the job during the whole process. We had a challenging job because we had a driveway that pitched down to a basement level garage. We had been getting little bits of water for years. About a month or 2 after the waterproofing we had a big storm (Irene). We lost electricity for 5 days and (which meant our sump pump did not work). All of the basements on our block flooded--some had 4 feet of water--except ours! The job was so well executed that the system worked even without the pump. We couldn't believe it and even the business owner was surprised.
Description of Work: We had our basement waterproofed.

Took 1 week. Very noisy to drill up existing concret. Hard work hauling all that stuff away. Be sure to securely cover or remove any items that you don't want covered in a thin layer of dust. There was a heavy rain shortly after the install and my basement was totally dry. Mark (the owner) and 2 workers did the work. They were very professional and hard working. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Installed 180 ft french drain in basement. Added new sump pit, Zoeller 1/2 h.p. sump pump and Pro series 2400 backup pump. Did maintenance on existing sump piping and pit to correct issue.

Central Jersey Waterproofing (Mark Olsommer) was the first time I used Angie's list and while the one reference on him was very good, I was very skeptical given the seriousness of the work. I strongly considered two other companies that received high recommendations by my neighbor and our general contractor, but their estimates for similar work were $5700 and $6575, respectively. I chose Mark because there was nothing about the core work to differentiate the 3 companies other than the price and Mark answered all of my questions with the confidence and experience of someone who knew what he was doing. Aside from price, the 3 companies did have different recommendations for the backup system. Battery only, water powered, and an electric/battery combo (ProSeries 2400). As a chemical engineer, I was intrigued by the water backup which runs off your city water using the Venturi effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venturi_pump). The water pump is great because it works when the electricity is out, but one disadvantage is that your pumping capacity is limited by the pressure of your city water. A licensed plumber is needed to install a water pump because they have to tap into the main supply line. I chose the ProSeries 2400 backup because if the main pump fails, the 2400 can run a full pumping capacity using electricity. If the power goes out then it has ~8 hours of continuous pumping life. It also has an alarm and indicator panel that tells you if the backup was engaged. I live in an area prone to serious flooding and I felt the pumping capacity was more important than the duration if the electricity went out. My long term plan is a natural gas powered electrical generator. Side notes: Mark returned my initial call that same day, the work was scheduled a month out and he stuck to that timing, he arrived on time both days when the work was performed and his crew cleaned up at the end of each day. I had two plumbers in the basement on the second day for estimates on a separate job and both commented on the quality of Mark's work. Specifically, the first said the backup pump was a smart option because of how well it performs and the second plumber said that he also installs French Drains and that the quality of the work was very good. I can't express how great that made me feel and I would highly recommend Mark to anyone else.
Description of Work: Jack hammered and removed the cement/dirt along the perimeter of the basement. Installed 97 linear feet of 3" perforated PVC piping around the perimeter with a custom pitch to sump pit in the front of the house. Filled the trench along the perimeter with clean stone. Drilled holes into the cinder block at the base of the walls along the entire perimeter to allow drainage from the walls. Installed plastic wafer sheeting along the perimeter to deflect water from the wall into the trench. Re-cemented the trench area up to the plastic wafer. Installed a 16" diameter x 26" deep perforated sump pit. Installed 1/3 hp Zoeller sump pump. Ran piping from pit through exterior wall. The cost of this portion of the work was only $3800. In addition, Mark installed at ProSeries 2400 batter backup pump for $850 and dug a trench in the front lawn and ran the discharge piping out to the street using 3" solid PVC piping for $425. Total was $5075. The work was performed over two days.

I received quotes from 4 companies. His was the lowest but I found him rated as A+ on the Better Bureau website and many of the others were B-. He was quick with his first visit to provide an estimate. It was clear and easy to read. He also provides a lifetime warranty which some companies only had a warrantee for you but the next owner would not get this. He worked on the job himself along with his team. He was pleasant and the team tried very hard to keep the house clean and cleaned up after their job. so far basement crawl space is perfect!
