Came while I was in the middle of getting siding done when I found out the siding company would not insulate soffits and I have pipes running in soffit between first and second floor. John came promptly and worked around siding company.

CUSTOMER SASTIFACTION!!!! that is #1 on this companys mind no matter what. I am 27 years old and own my home and not once ever felt taken advantage of or pressured into doing anything. I own a very old home built in 1937. I called John because I have a closet that was extremely cold even had ice on the INSIDE of my closet during a cold winter. I called in the afternoon on a Sunday we talked on the phone for at least a 45 min discussing my problem and explaining every option. I told him I didn't know what I wanted to do but asked him if he could come by and look at my closet. He said sure no problem by 4 pm he was there. Now I am about an hour away.....which nether of us realized at the time but as he said he came. He assessed my problem with a thermal heat gun and told me what he thought and what he could do for reasonable price. He sprayed foam in every external wall of the closet as well as spraying a gap outside of the house on the walls too. It worked pretty well. He called me the very next day to ask how things were and I told him the areas on which he sprayed seemed good and much warmer. The floor of my closet was still slightly cold which I had told him and he said yea he was afraid of that. (Which I decided against when he origanlly told me). But guess what he immeaditly told me he would come back the following weekend and spray the floor as well at no additional charge!!!....i guess I should have listened to him to begin with......i am so thankful I found an honest company that goes above and beyond. thanks so much john

. We did not expect to have to dispose of the torn down insulation about 10 large garbage bags full. But the big problem was that spray insulation is supposed to form an airtight seal in your attic. Spray foam has a poor R rating but the fact that your attic is airtight is how it keeps the heat/cold out. Because of this our attic fan was removed and sprayed over which was fine. Then about a month later we complained that the attic still seemed hot and that was not what we expected. James Turner came over with heat sensing equipment and stated that the area over the gable vents could not be reached and therefore we were not airtight. He then stated that this did not matter a lot. I feel that we did not get what we paid for and want a refund of 20%. I want to hire someone else to finish the job since Jim has said he would come back since August 2017 and enough is enough. Now he tells me he has 28 customers before me and he will get to me when he can and he wants to charge extra for this service. I have had enough patience and am finished waiting. I am disappointed that we got this business from Angie's list

John and the team came on time. They were professional and courteous throughout the 6 hours of work. John communicated clearly and sought my input whenever there was any doubt. The result is extremely positive: we are able to lower our thermostat temperature and still be comfortable. It’s also much quieter inside. Finally the team cleaned up really well after their work.

excellent!!!! we have recognized a much warmer home this winter, but we originally had this done last summer because our air conditioning system was in our very hot attic. This means we have gotten a great year round benefit. We thank the Dr. and his team for chosing this service for us. They even offered us a follow up thermal imaging, which showed our window and door seals needed replacement. We have happily recommended them to our family and friends.

This company appears to sell just one product and that is spray foam of the attic overhead surfaces, and that was the sole basis of their energy audit recommendation. I expected more of a holistic assessment of improvements we could make to improve our home's efficiency. The company representative tried to convince me that fiberglass insulation has no value in keeping the heat in, which makes no sense as it is a standard in home construction materials. There seemed to be a obvious opportunity to insulate the HVAC duct work, but that was not part of the recommendation. Again, they were only recommending what they sell which appears to be just spray foam insulation of the attic overhead surfaces. The estimate of $5500 was hand written on the back of a business card on the spot-- there was no detailed documented estimate of how that figure was calculated. The thermal scan cost just under $300. I learned later there are other energy audit vendors that do this for free. I chose not to purse their services beyond the initial thermal scan and energy audit.

We unexpectedly need to replace our roof after recently purchasing our home. Several rooms on our ranch style house have vaulted ceilings with no attic access. We called John to inquire about any potential insulation issues that might arise as well as overall energy efficiency. John spent almost an hour on the phone providing an extensive free consultation sharing his expertise. He steered us toward easy to implement, less expensive solutions that didn't necessarily require hiring him. He went the extra mile giving advice on the roof replacement to ensure it was done correctly. Being new first time homeowners, expert (and free) advice is always appreciated! I needed two outer walls and the ceiling of my garage insulated, along with a portion of the front wall of the house that had an area exposing the bathroom floor to extreme outside temperatures. John did a great job explaining the best, most cost effective solution for my garage. The job was executed on time, within the quoted budget, and with great professionalism. He and his team were very friendly and courteous. When we discovered one blemish in the ceiling that resulted from the installation, he can back immediately from an hour away (on a Saturday!) and repaired it. This is the kind of service you can expect from him and his team. It is too early in the season to know the ultimate effect of the insulation in extreme weather, but the room is already demonstrating the ability to hold heat that it could not do before. I will be recommending him to anyone needing insulation work, and I will absolutely request his services for future projects.

The roof overhang was feeding cold to your bathroom just above the front door and we were able to access that area through a very small opening in the attic area adjacent and above the garage ceiling. No other insulation company could or would take that task on, successfully. We surely loaded up the foam where it was needed. John did a great job sealing up a very leaky sill beam in some tough to get to areas. He originally quoted the job back in February, but I wasn't able to get the work done until September. John was very patient and understanding and as soon as I was able to get the job done he was here two days later ready to go. John's evaluation of what needed to be done was focused on getting the most bang for my buck unlike others who tried to upsell me everything that they could to make the house more energy efficient with no regard to diminishing returns on my dollar. When he came out for work day he was well prepared, explained everything that he was doing and provided a very professional result. He and his assistant were very careful and cleaned up well. I would strongly recommend John to my friends and neighbors and would absolutely use Doctor Energy Smart again.

We called and had an estimate. Job was performed the same day. Very knowledgeable and accommodating. He even did a little extra spray foam when he was down in the location and saw some more leaky spots.

Based upon reviews, we called John in to assess supplementing the insulation in our home. Based upon our square footage and needs, I anticipated a job of $20,000+. John very professionally assessed our home and recommended that we reduce the scope of our job and simply attack the areas of greatest need, revisiting the result later in the year if required. John was professional, worked efficiently, and approached the job as if he cared about building a relationship rather than optimizing his short term revenue. Excellent provider.

My wife and I hired John to soundproof some walls that separate us from our noisy neighbors. John was quick to respond to our inquiry. My wife spoke to him on the phone about our project. John was able to provide us with an estimate over the phone. We made an appointment for later that week.
John and his assistant showed up slightly late, but they got right to work. They took the time to explain what they were doing the entire time. They worked quickly and efficiently. John even checked for possible additional insulation issues. This service would normally incur an additional charge, but he did it as a courtesy. He also provided us with some useful tips on how to better insulate our home.
The work was wrapped up within less than two hours. They made a decent effort to clean up afterward, but we did discover a small issue after they had left. The price he quoted us was the price we paid.
John was confident that the spray foam would significantly reduce the sounds we were hearing. Unfortunately, we can still hear a degree of noise, but it does seem to be fairly reduced. To his credit, John followed up with us and was even willing to come back out to examine the problem further. My wife and I decided that it would not be necessary. We may have him come back in the future though for additional insulation work.

Hi, After much research and phone calls regarding insulation of a cold single family house in North Arlington NJ, I decided to hire Dr Energy Smart,. John was a pleasure to work with, he was very straight forward, gave great advice and suggestions,. "Hi [Member Name Removed]- I know you are a very busy gal with your work being out of state and your unfortunate house flooding from that frozen pipe, so I am using your experience here to tell the world of homeowners about this problem. Your freezing took place in that un-insulated crawlspace that we spray foamed, but the pipe broke at the other end of the house in your living room because it was there that thawing began. Folks,this is the real location and reason for this devastating homeowner disaster! Pipes running through basement and crawlspaces that are left (unknowingly) un-insulated, should be addressed. [Member Name Removed] recently purchased and likely would have added insulation because she happens to be a "smart" lady, but was in the process of moving in when this occurred iirc. She hired some great contractors to remodel, I met and questioned them on subjects pertaining to the renovations, and liked their answers and work. It was my pleasure to be in her sights as she is quite a discriminating homeowner! I surely wish her well with her future projects there, and hope she and her significant other takes my advice on fixing the ductwork issues in the attic. Pinched flexible ducting is a large energy loss item that we do not overlook during thermal assessments. The home inspectors do not mention these types of infractions during their inspections, and HVAC installers aren't in the business of preparing for the future results of their work.
