Our attic had old wood paneling and gross ceilings and floors --- not a space you would want to spend any time in. We wanted to update it into a modern and usable room. We received 4 quotes (all much more expensive then we had expected) and Cipriani was no more/less then the other quotes. We decided to go with Cipriani for a handful of reason, some of which included:
(1) they gave us a 2-3 week timeframe for the completion of the project and said that they meet their deadline 90% of the time
(2) they were an actual company with a full staff that could be dedicated to our project -- ie not just a 1 contractor company
(3) they would coordinate the use of an outside plumber to bring heat up to the attic so that we didnt have to coordinate.
They did not come through on any of these counts.
The project took over 5 weeks to complete. Once we passed the 3 week deadline, Cipriani kept just saying it would take a few more days instead of re-evaluating the project and giving us a new (tangable) deadline. On most days, we only had 1 guy from Cipriani working on the project. Even as we approached the 3 week deadline, Cipriani didnt dedicate more workers to our project. The deadline came and went without anyone batting an eyelash. (Note: It did take 3 weeks to get the permit for the electrical work. However, it is not like everything else that could have been done without the permit was done. There was still a long list of things not completed that were totally unrelated to the electric work, permit or ceiling). In addition, we didnt have much demo (we laid the wall directly over the wood paneling), we didnt need to wait for appliances to be ordered and shipped and there were no weather delays ---- i.e. there was no outside reasons for the delay except for that Cipriani simply didnt calculate the correct deadline and didnt dedicate enough people to our project. This was a big project for us that cost alot of money for us and we felt like we were "small fries" for Cipriani. Lastly, we needed to bring heat up to the attic and we used Cipriani's plumber instead of finding our own bc then Cipriani would coordinate directly with the plumber and take us out of the process. Not the case. We had some issue with the heat/plumber. Cipriani was certainly helpful, but it was my husband calling the plumber when none of our heat would turn on and it was my husband coordinating with the plumber when he needed to come back into the house, ect. (Note: By the end of the project Jay Cipriani did get involved which def helped the process and quickly resolved the heat issue).
Therefore, although Cipriani did a nice job with the project, we would not use them again. I understand that any home project can get off track and can be a headache. However, I beleive that this project could have certainly been completed on time if Cipriani gave us the resources we thought we were signing up for.
"[member name removed], we appreciate your constructive criticism and your honesty. We take your comments to heart and apologize that we didn’t live up to your expectations. We take pride in our ability to stay on schedule and it remains true that we can do it 90% of the time. We made the mistake of rushing to start this job to try to get it done before your baby arrived and we didn’t expect for the permits to take as long as they did. We should have just waited until they were ready and started three weeks later but I guess we were overly optimistic on how long they would take. I’m not saying that the permits were to blame for the total delay and I agree that there were times when we could have had more people on the job to help the dedicated Project Manager move it along so you’re correct that we could have finished a little sooner if we were able to that. We ‘re not going to pass the blame onto anyone else, this is our fault. As for the plumbing experience, our intention was to save you a pretty good bit of money by having you work directly with our plumber which was supposed to mean that you would handle some of the communication, leg work, and pay the plumber directly but it sounds like you were expecting us to still do everything. Not sure how that misunderstanding came to be but I can see why that would upset you. We couldn’t turn back the clock and do it over but we thought that the $850 credit we gave you would help you feel better about the delay and our commitment to satisfy our customers. You are not “small fries” to us and I’m sorry we made you feel that way. You and your family are great people to work with and that’s all we can ask for. In the end our efforts to get the job done before your baby came and to save you some money obviously backfired on us and we accept full responsibility for not meeting your expectations. I hope that for many years going forward you will continue to enjoy your new space, the workmanship, and the value."
We had one small issue with a railing after the job was completed. They came back immediately and took care of everything.
I would highly recommend them for any job.
"Thanks so much Jim. It's always a pleasure to work for you."
We had already had Cipriani builders renovate our home at a cost of $350,000 and were so happy with them that they were the only company we called to take a look at our next project.
I needed a new roof, windows, dormers and ancillaries on my pole barn/workshop.
They worked with me to fit the project within my budget but still give me everything I wanted.
The team that worked on the project were tidy and considerate.
The project went perfectly to plan with no issues what so ever.
The quality of the work was great, and the barn looks stunning. The work they did was in keeping with a classic red pole barn. I am very happy with how it turned out.
Whatever my next project is, I already know that Cipriani builders will be the contractors doing it for me.
"Thank you for taking the time to writing a wonderful review about the work most recently done and on about a previous project. We appreciate how you value the workmanship and creativity that went into this project and that you are extremely thrilled with the outcome! Please don't hesitate to call us when you are interested in doing another project to enhance the beauty of your home."
BEFORE I picked Cipriani to do our work we had more than 10 contractors come and give us quotes on our major project. They differed quite significantly in cost to the point that it was confusing. We ended up picking the one who looked the best and gave a decent price, only to be thoroughly let down.
We lost around $10,000 to a contractor who wasn't even on time for our initial meetings, and who had architectural plans drawn up at a significant cost that weren't what we wanted, and every time we asked for the changes we wanted it was ignored or not done. I got so frustrated that I made the decision not to continue with that company and started looking in much more detail about what we were doing. That led me to Cipriani Builders and the best choice I think I could have possibly made. They were recommended to me initially by word of mouth from an architect friend. They have been outstanding on a level that I simply did not think was possible with all of the stories I had heard about the construction industry.
I learned a lot as I lost that $10,000 mainly to pay attention to the quotes, the professionalism of the people, and most importantly for the final cost the details of what were and were not included.
My initial quote from Cipriani builders was significantly more expensive than any of the others I had. This made me nervous but as I went through it and compared them (I am an engineer so like to look at the details) it was obvious that Cipriani's quote included absolutely EVERYTHING and the price they showed me would be the price I paid for the job I wanted (barring any scary unforeseen surprises.)
When I looked at the quotes from other companies they were missing the details or materials and I would be expected to pay for those items separately. Also when I looked at the allowances in some of the other quotes they weren't realistic to the prices for materials I had already been looking for like hard wood flooring and tiling.
So I chose Cipriani. They gave me a very good (fast) time line for the project and I was worried it could be done on the schedule. It turned out that they were on schedule or ahead of it for the whole project. The only delay was our making due to a special tile we ordered for our kitchen floor that was late being delivered. Cipriani even worked hard and managed to catch up most of the delay!
An extremely valuable added benefit of working with Cipriani was Cindy Cipriani who really helped us with the interior design of our house. Her help in the vision, and materials selection has left us with our dream house that drops people's jaws when they walk in and get a tour. It was a huge value that was included in the overall cost of the project.
The crew of people that worked on our property were always thoughtful and gracious. It actually got to the point that when they finished and left we were sad to see them go and actually missed them after they had left!
In the 2+ years since the work was done we have had two small issues. One where a light fixture had condensation coming from it. Cipriani was there within days and fixed it with the addition of special insulation and it hasn't been an issue since. We also had a door that needed adjusting slightly and they were there the same day to fix it. The quality of their work has been outstanding and their response to help fix even the smallest of issues has been impressive. They stand by their work.
Quite simply I wouldn't go anywhere else for a contractor. We have already had them back to do more work for us with a roof on our barn, and if we do any more work they will be the ONLY company we call to come and do it.
An outstanding company and excellent value for the money we paid. I can't recommend them enough and do recommend them personally to all of our friends.
If you are nervous about picking the right contractor and spending a large sum of money picking Cipriani is the right decision.
"Thank you for choosing Cipriani Remodeling Solutions for creating the home of your dreams. We are so thrilled that you were pleased with everything from start to finish. "Dear (Member name removed), Thank you so much for your wonderful comments about Cipriani Remodeling Solutions. We appreciate you taking the time write the review on Angie's List. It is a pleasure to know that you were satisfied with the quality of the work but also the excellent customer service that you had received. Again, thank you for the great feedback."
"Thank you for your wonderful feedback on Angie's List. We appreciate your continued support for our workmanship and the ability to the get project done in a clean, timely fashion. It is always a pleasure to work with you and to create a project that meets all your expectations."
In general I would view them as a company of last resort. If you absolutely can not hire the individual contractors yourself, and do not care about the cost they are for you. Otherwise, I think you can do better elsewhere.
"Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your project on Angie's List. We apologize if you were not happy with the outcome of your project. We are a reputable company and stand by our workmanship but we understand that you were not satisfied with the project. We take in consideration all the feedback that we receive and appreciate your opinion."
"THanks, Great to hear from you on our projects together. Standing by our work is critical to ensuring satisfied customers. Hope to work with you again."
"Thank you for your glowing comments. It turned out to be quite a job, and we’re very glad we were able to provide the right solution for your issue. Your patience through the process was also key, since it was complicated and you had just come off a bad experience. Look forward to working with you again on a future project."
"Thank you for your kind comments about our team who worked on your chimney project. John, Bud, and the entire crew work very hard to provide the kind of customer experience they would want to have in their own home. Look forward to working with you again on a future project."
The overall timeframe was much longer than they originally quoted us. This was due to the problems with the township inspection and it seemed that Cipriani had trouble getting their own workstaff on-site at times.
As with any construction project they ran into problems but were able to figure them out to our satisfaction.
My biggest problem is that the on-site contruction guys kept asking us questions about the remodeling that their designer already knew and we decided on. Seems like the communications between the designer and construction crew was lacking several times which cause us aggravation. I expressed this concern to Ciprirani and told them they need to improve their communications.
You also pay as you go. As certain items are completed on your checklist you will provide them with a check. I did not pay my final bill until all the work was completed and the designer came back for a walk-through which we found a few things and he honestly did not like a couple of final items so he had them change it on their own dime. After this was completed and cut the last check.
What is important to know is that Cirpriani will NOT be your cheapest vendor to provide services. You can find cheaper vendors but I went with Cirpriani because the end product was always excellent. About 10 years ago they built a $80K addition on my home and it is still in excellent condition with no problems. In summary if you want a quality product they will give it to you but you will have to pay alittle more.
"Thank you for posting your comments about our work in your home. Your recommendations on improving communication between the remodeling consultant and the on-site construction team has been discussed, and we have made some internal changes to avoid that in the future. You are already a “repeat customer” so we look forward to our next project and showing you how you helped us improve."
