Robert provided dozens of valuable tips, including (1) installing trim kits to block flow of cold air from the attic through the recessed lighting fixtures and into our living room, (2) putting insulating foam in the gap where the stone facade of our house meets the roof, to block wind, (3) maximizing passive solar heat and blocking the ceiling vent so we can enjoy our unheated porch for an additional few weeks each spring and fall, (4) weatherstripping our attic hatch door, (5) turning off our radon remission fan unless we are in the basement, (6) insulating the pipes in the basement that carry hot water from the boiler to the radiators and that carry water from and back to the water heater, (7) it would help to better insulate the big ducts for the air conditioner in our unconditioned attic. Robert would have charged $400 instead of $250 if we wanted a written report but was willing to let us take extensive notes instead. He showed us how to use an incense stick to check for drafts in cold weather. He used to be a building inspector and notices a lot.
