Bartlett Tree Experts has been providing scientific tree care since 1907. A 3rd generation, family owned business, our mission is the maintenance and care of the health and beauty of trees and shrubs. We are an international organization, with offices in Canada, England and Ireland. Our Research Laboratories advises us about the latest technological advances in arboriculture and assists our arborists with training updates. The laboratory networks with professionals at universities, government agencies, and allied industry groups. This enables us to provide state-of-the art procedures and techniques to our clients. Our arborists consult with other professionals for common projects and community interests. Our unique position in the green industry helps us further arboriculture as a science and a profession. We believe in providing pro-active property maintenance to avoid landscape problems or stop them early rather than “reactive” maintenance that is driven by situations and events. I paid $803.95 for the treatment of three ash trees. The Bartlett Tree technician treated only two of the three trees. All security cameras in our yard show the technician treating only the two trees in the side yard. The backyard tree was not treated. I have contacted the Bartlett Tree offices in Denville, NJ 4 times and the office in Stamford, Ct. 2 times. Mr. Kevin Rodriquez our client representative has returned only one call and stated he would "get back to me" after he investigated. This call was over two weeks ago. As you can see, I have called again and again and have left messages on the voicemail and with office personnel for a return call but have not been able to resolve this issue. I am truly trying to save 3 magnificent ash trees that are on my property. Unfortunately, Bartlett Tree Experts have no interest in saving them. They are only interested in money and company profits. If you do decide to use this company do NOT pay them in full until all work has been completed. I would strongly suggest that the initial payment should be only 20%.

The arborist, Lars, met with me and discussed what work needed to be done, and he promptly emailed me a quote. The crew that performed the work were professional, did good work, and cleaned up thoroughly afterwards. I really appreciated having a trained arborist to advise me on care for the old trees on our property.

The crew arrived at 8:00 am. The truck and chipper looked new and well cared for. Each man had safety gear on. They pruned the following trees: large Spruce, ornamental China Bell, Gold Cypress, Crab Apple, Dogwood, Crimson Maple. They did a nice job on all the trees and cleaned up all debris.
Two days later the truck for the spraying and fertilizing arrived. Again the truck looked new and was in good working order. The following were fertilized; mature Cherry Laurel, Weak Japanese Maple, and Dogwood. The tree sprayed with pesticide was the Ornamental China Bell which was covered in cottony azalea scale. Again safety was followed. A sign was posted by the curb giving the time and date of spraying. In all i was very pleased with their service and will use them next year for tree spraying.

Bartlett Tree used compressed air to remove the dirt covering the roots only in the area that will be impacted. The service person then hand cut the roots using a variety of pruners and saws as needed. He then recovered the remaining exposed roots to avoid their drying out. After the tank is removed, they will be coming back to feed the tree all around to encourage it to grow additional roots.

I contacted several tree services before deciding to use Bartlett. Although they were the least expensive out of the services, that is NOT why I chose them. They were very professional in quoting the job and we insistant that they would not need to hire a crane to take the tree down. All of the other services said first thing..."we need a crane".
Bartlett gave me a price quotation and the final payment was exactly what was on the quote - No extra hidden costs. They took 2 days to take the tree down and cleaned up the yard perfectly. We waited about a week for them to come back and grind the stump as contracted.
The field guys were very friendly and took pride in their work. I will definitely use Bartlett again as we have other trees that need to be pruned and/or removed.

Bartlett was very responsive post Hurricane Sandy and managed to get the
large pine off my roof within four days of the storm. The crew was
great and even put a few temporary patches on the roof for me where the
tree had gone through the roof. Highly recommended.

They made it a priority to get things ready before the hurricane and after the hurricane. They were pretty reliable. The price is a little more expensive but they do a good job, they don't ruin anything while they're here, and they clean up well so it's worth paying more for that. I will use this company again in the future.

Nothing to tell. My rating tells it all. This company and its employees were professional from start to finish. I didn't know it when I called them for a quotation but my neighbors (three of them) indicated that they had used him in the past and were very happy with the services provided.

Fellow Angie's Listers -- service companies really read their reviews!
To be fair, our arborist had come back after the original 6 other trees had been finished and I called to complain about the service. At that point, he had cut the poison ivy vines and promised to come back once he figured that the final tree was safe to work on. After I posted the information about my first unsatisfactory experience with Bartlett's on Angie's List, they contacted me again to come back out and look at the last tree with the poison ivy from my original project quote. The poison ivy had died back enough to allow for the pruning and cabling to be completed. Our arborist apologized again and said that he would email me to set up a date to finish the work on the last tree. He did and the work was completed without incident. In the end, my project was done as per the original price quote and Bartlett's clearly cares enough about customer service to keep coming back until you are satisfied! Good to know that they want to make it right.

I have another tree that needs to be cabled but it is currently covered in poison ivy. I thought that the gentleman that came out to talk to us was very knowledgeable, but I didn’t think much of the two gentlemen that came out to do the work. I’m not sure that I would use them again. The men didn’t care if I thought they were doing work and their behavior was approaching rude. I went out to speak to them and they didn’t want anything to do with me. One guy was furious and said there was no way on earth that he was going into a tree with poison ivy. They make you sign a contract before they will schedule the work; they have a lot of rules. They are expensive and I did not think the customer service was comparable with the price or the reputation. I was disappointed.

The rep came when he said he would, went over the entire yard with me. It seems there was a communication problem in that I felt I was saying 'do everything' but I specified the particular needs of some plants. He carefully recorded those and my intention to have everything pruned got lost along the way. The crew that came seemed to have done the job rather quickly, and though the crew chief went over the yard with me, I failed to notice the conservative pruning and that not everything was done. Later I looked with a more careful eye and noticed that the job fell far short of my expectations. Besides, it was way too much money for the relatively small amount of pruning they had done! (I took notice that I was impressed with the company's reputation and didn't pay as close attention as I would with a less desirable company - good lesson there!)I called the rep, explained my concerns, and he pointed out that he had recorded what I wanted pruned. "Do it all" was lost in the details of the job. However, within a few weeks or so another worker arrived, walked the yard with me, worked solo for some hours, and the job met my expectations of what that amount of money would buy. The diagnosis and treatment part of the job seems to have been done appropriately. All workers and the rep were polite, they cleaned up after themselves and for the most part were responsive. There were a few good lessons for me in this transaction.

Bartlett is very professional. We have used them for over 10 years and they have always taken very good care of our trees and shrubs. Their staff is very well trained and knowledgeable about the trees and the various treatment options. They are very responsive to our requests to keep the chemicals to a minimum and use some organic based treatments.

They are always prompt and responsive. For the tree fertilization they just come, do the job and leave. For the other work, they quick and clean. They will come out to check to see what work needs to be done and give me a fair description of what needs to be done and why; they have also told me that work did not need to be done at a particular time.
