General Remodeling
It went quite well. John was courteous & professional. Always showed up at the agreed upon times & stayed true to his estimate. We were very happy with the work, would use him again for future jobs, and have recommended him to our friends.

Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel
The remodel was unnecessarily stressful and difficult. I ordered cabinets in April of 2012, and they arrived approximately 6 weeks later. GVC did not show up to start installation until July. The project finally completed in June of 2013, with a different contractor at the helm. In fact, GVC simply disappeared with no word, in October of 2012, leaving a long punch list of items that I had to secure someone else to complete. What was estimated to be a 4-6 week job ended up taking 15 months.
The contractor refused to provide a formal project schedule, and never referred to me by my name. I was known as "Hey" throughout the project. The words "please," "thank you," and "I am sorry" were never uttered despite mistakes, questions, and delays. I never knew what was going on. The contractor would never establish whether he was coming on any given day unless I proactively asked, and on many days did not show up at all. If he did, I never saw him work more than a short day, never a full one. His website refers to "his guys" but he seems to be a one man band. He did bring in an electrician and a plumber, plus a guy to help move cabinets, but other than that he seemed to do all the work alone. No wonder he was painfully slow. He demonstrated zero sense of urgency.
Communication was awful and unclear throughout the project. The contractor never scheduled final inspections. In fact, I was later informed by the Town that Mr. Vita failed to apply for anything but my electrical permit. He lied and said he had gotten plumbing and building permits as well (even checking off those boxes on the Construction Permit Notice!!), but really just pocketed my money paid for those two. He lied to my face about getting the proper permits. Some plumbing work performed by Mr. Vita's shoddy, sub-contract plumber iwas redone because it was not up to code.
He also failed to return my keys when he disappeared from the job, so I had to replace all the locks in my home.
He refused to take accountability for anything - he ripped out a large chunk of my hardwood floor -- which was not in the contract, nor approved by me -- resulting in my having to replace the entire floor. And he smashed several floor tiles -- and blamed the countertop installers, even though they arrived AFTER the tiles were broken. So add dishonesty on top of lack of accountability.
Quality was spotty. It's clear he is a decent carpenter, and at times did very nice work. However, he clearly did not care about making me happy or about the long-term outcomes. He cut corners -- for instance, he installed exterior steps, encasing the exterior dryer vent (?!?!?) underneath; installing marble floor tiles without any substrate underneath them, etc.
I have never been treated with such utter disrespect by a contractor. He was rude, had a terrible attitude, and made me uncomfortable. What was to be an exciting project for me turned out to be stressful and uncomfortable due to the lack of professionalism demonstrated by this organization and its owner.
A new contractor was engaged to finish the job and fix this company's egregious errors and oversights.
