I am so glad I found Pete. I tried to find someone to fix one of my replacement windows years ago and could not find someone. Recently I could not open a different window so I tried Angie's List and found Pete. He was quickly responsive when I contacted him. I have certain days where I can flex my work hours and Pete was willing to work around my schedule to do an assessment and complete the work. I greatly appreciated that. He always arrived exactly when scheduled.
Pete immediately knew the issues with the windows, ordered the parts and completed the work as soon as the parts arrived. He is truly an expert with replacement windows. He even fixed two problematic doors he passed through without me asking and at no extra charge. A true craftsman who cares about his work! I highly recommend Pete!

Pete responded quickly to my phone call and came over to estimate the job. He answered all my questions and offered good advice. I received an estimate within a day or two, and an idea of when he could do the job based on his current schedule. once I accepted the estimate, he came back and took detailed measurements and ordered the windows. I scheduled a installment date when the windows were ready. Pete was prompt, clean and professional on the job and cleaned up well before he left. The windows look and work great. I will definitely use him again as all my windows are very old and I plan to replace them as money permits.

Went great and the work was done quickly. I really like the look of the window. The product used is a Mezzo window from Alside. Already I notice a reduction in the outside noise level and draftiness. The trim work inside and outside is so much better than what I had - really nice and clean looking. Pete did a great job and then some. He took down my old window covering which I couldn't do. He helped me move furniture in the room and took care to ensure my wood floor was protected throughout the job. He cleaned up after each day's work. He took the old materials out to my curb for trash pickup. Even with the cold weather, he did the cutting work outside. Pete is totally professional, friendly and ready to offer advice (which I needed!). I'm really happy with the job and expect to hire Pete again for other projects.

Pete's work was excellent. After I bought these windows, I discovered that most people won't install windows that you purchase elsewhere because they can't be sure you ordered the right thing. Understandable, but scary to discover AFTER buying non-refundable windows from Home Depot. [Side note: Cherry Hill Home Depot, why would you not tell me this info as I was ordering? Even Home Depot's installers won't put them in if they didn't do the measurements themselves.]
I got two estimates for the work - one from Pete, and one from another company for 1/3 of the price. After talking to Pete though, it was obvious that he knew WAY more about how to do the work. He's truly an expert. He told me he couldn't start the job for three weeks due to other jobs, then a vacation, which we accepted. He said to call him when the windows came in and he'd take a look at them to make sure he had all he needed. Well, when I called him about the window arrival, he said he could start the job the next day! Whole thing was done in 2.5 days including cleanup. The new windows are beautiful and we're very pleased with the work.
I think his price is high but fair, given his experience and expertise. We would definitely hire him again.

Pete came out and inspected the leak and looked in the attic as well as outside. I asked him to caulk everything on north side window area above or around the window that was leaking. I also caulked seams on inside of window in case those were seeping. Pete's caulking on outside seems to have stopped the top leak and my caulking the seams has stopped the inside leaking.
We have had torrential downpours this month along with blowing rain against house. The windows have remained water tight.

Pete called me back right away and told me that he was finishing up a deck job. I told him to call me once he was done...which he did....a piece of siding was loose on the front of the house; also, I needed him to permanently repair and attach two pieces of boards on the front of my house (too hard to explain).......he did the job perfectly and I was very pleased....I would call him again to do another job.

I have had estimates from Pete in the past for this job, but did not follow through at that time. Pete gave a new estimate and helped complete the order, attending to small details like the color of screens to match, color of trim, etc. When the windows were delivered, he showed up with his assistant and began work promptly. Each day they cleaned up the work area and disposed of scrap and trash properly. At the end of the job he left the site clean and ready for painting.

Pete was a consummate professional. He was prompt in responding my phone call, he provided us with a clear estimate based on our stated preferences (for specific type, style of door). He arrived on time, knew what he was doing and was attentive to details. He is pleasant, polite and easy to get along with and he cleaned up the work area when he was finished.
After he installed our doors, we hired him to remove our old attic door and install a new one. The job was harder than anticipated but Pete and his associate were through, diligent and did a great job. Also he provided a number of tips and observations about other structural issues about our home that were very helpful and he seemed sincerely interested in providing quality service. During the second job, I asked him for an estimate to replace our basement windows, which he did, so we will be calling him soon to do that work. In short, we are extremely pleased with his work.

I showed him my problem and he had suggested that we address the way the windows were draining. He said he wanted to try this first before we tried more expensive options. When he was fixing my window he damaged my wall. He came back promptly and fixed it. I respected him for being helpful for me.

Pete is very easy to deal with and quite capable. He installed a window, I purchased, by himself on the second story of my house. He was concerned with what I purchased and measurements and offered to came out to measure. Wasn't necessary and everything worked out fine. To my point; he is very careful, detailed and clean. He also shaved down a door and fixed a door hinge for me as well. So I can also speak to his general carpentry skills and misc services. I wasn't sure about pricing, I must be getting old becasue everything seems expensive these days. His price seemed reasonable for the time he took and the result. He took the better part of the day and did the exterior flashing and came back for a follow up to install new trim. Pete is definately recommended with high marks, I doubt you'll go wrong with his services.

I am somewhat conflicted about detailing my experience but think it necessary nonetheless. A project that should have taken a day and a half, plus the time to get the door after the order, took over three months. I wanted a good patio door (directly to the outside, not to a covered patio) so was willing to go with Andersen,, knowing that it would be expensive. Because the door to be installed was not covered by additional structural overhang, I was told that I could not get the door that I wanted - a French door - because Andersen would not guarantee it would be water tight, so I settled for the door that I could get. I did not want a slider, so my options were essentially the same style door I was replacing. (The ordering was done via catalog, not in person) My next choice was outside color. I wanted white. When the door finally arrived (the first door) it was clearly not white. Not just off-white, but a sandy taupe multiple grades of color from white. The response to this was that in fact this was white; that "Andersen only makes one white." Which is swell, except why on earth would the company represent sand as white. I chose brass for the locking mechanism, not knowing or being informed of what the locking mechanism of the door actually entailed (although I did not ask, either.) So, a month goes by before the door arrives and Pete can find the helper that he needs to do the actual install (I had informed him when we first ordered the product that I would be out of state on business during certain periods and that although I did not feel it necessary to be home when he installed the door, I did want to be in the state, so this delayed things after the delay in just getting the door.) It was when the (first) door was installed that I noticed for the first time that the door was not white. Pete was gone by the time I got hime from work, so imagine my frustration when it took me ten minutes just to figure out the locking mechanism, and then to discover that the locks did not in fact engage. The reason for this problem was simple: the door was warped so badly that it was significantly off the plane of the lock in the frame. Those of you who have purchased Andersen products know that their doors are VERY expensive, so I felt that for what I ws paying, I should have had a door that responded to voice commands. When I interacted wtih Pete, he did not comment on the problems he had experienced with the lock, nor did he mention the warp. However, when I (enthusiastically, to say the least) pointed out the warp, adn that I had a GREAT deal of difficulty with the lock, he said that he had experienced some difficulty with the lock as well and had tried to adjust it during the original install. So here's my real problem. An experienced installer puts in a bad door and either doesn't notice (!!) or thinks that I won't notice, especially since the door won't complete the locking cycle because it is so off plane. Whatever the case, I had to point out the problem to him. It would have been one thing had he said to me that he found structural problems with the door and it needed to be replaced and Andersen is SO good with things like this, but that is not the way it happened. Needless to say, it was a frustrating disappointment. It took antoher nearly 7 weeks to get the Andersen rep to agree that yup, the door was warped and I should get a new one, so it was over three months before what should have been a two day job was finally finished. A bit about the locking mechanism. There is a bolt-like structure at the top and the bottom, as well as the actual deadbolt at the handle. In order to actually lock the door, you have to pull up the handle and only then can you turn the bolt to engage the locks. You need both hands to pull the handle up, whether you are inside or outside. If you are a litlte kid you could not do it; if you are a person with arthritic hands you couldn't do it either. Had I known this was the mechanism I was purchasing (I am not certain that there are other options) I would never have gotten it. In an emergency this lock will be a problem. And, as I mentioned, the door is an appallingly expensive near-duplicate of the door I replaced. I made some finishing choices that left me with an extremely disappointing result, overall. I can't blame Pete for the wood finish choices I made, and ultimately I think the door is OK, although the lock is still a sluggish nuisance. I just hope it is not dangerous. Not nearly worth the time and money; not nearly worth it. Lessons to be learned here, surely are to never purchase something this costly without seeing it first ("this is the only white Andersen makes..!!!) and unless it is an old reliable worker, never not be around for the major portion of the work, as inconvenient as that is. I hope that the damaged door was not Andersen attempting to just pass off a bad product (I know that major home stores commonly sell as new inside doors that have been cut wrong and returned). I previously felt that I couldn't afford to skimp on something as energy important as a door, but this was overall just an expensive negative experience. That I don't like the door is not Pete's fault; I do believe that he did want me to be...satisfied, but remember that I wanted French doors that might have provided some architectural appeal. This door is boring and it is incomprehensible to me that it was as costly as it was.
Response from PETE HESLER - WINDOWS & CARPENTRY
"I am sorry you are disappointed in the remodeling project. As you mentioned - the only delays were caused by a manufacturing defect. The replacement parts took the same 4-6 weeks to get, as anybody who deals with Andersen will tell you, because they had to manufacture the entire door panel. To say that a 2-day project took 3 months seems a bit harsh - there were 2-3 days of work done, and about 10 weeks of waiting for both the original order and then the replacement parts. I fully understand the frustration this caused, but I could not control that aspect of the project. Please understand that the original defect (warped operating panel) was found only after installation of the door - it was not possible to discover it beforehand. The door was not a "major home stores commonly sell as new inside doors that have been cut wrong and returned" item, as you suggested. It was ordered through a reputable supplier, DuBell Lumber, and that's why it took 4-6 weeks for delivery. I do appreciate that you acknowledge some selection issues on your part. I hope that other readers understand that the specifications and pricing in my proposal were accurate, and you did agree to them. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience, but I felt it necessary to make my opinions known to all who may read this. Sincerely, Pete Hesler"
