I called Schneider for a quote like I did many other companies and they were one of the lower quotes I got based on a detailed item list. They gave me a per cubic foot price that came to about $800 total. I was aware that the amount of stuff I had was small and that it would be added to a larger trailer truck after it was taken away. The problem should have been obvious when the "foreman" of the 3 guys that showed to pack my stuff showed me what 500 cubic feet represented in his truck. I immediately realized we were about to get charged a whole lot more than quoted. It turned out to be 2 times what was quoted. At this point in time we were on a tight time schedule so we could not change moving companies, plus our stuff was on the truck and basically being held hostage. I begrudgingly accepted the higher price and my stuff was taken away to be put on another truck. I went to Florida to await the delivery 5 days later. It took a total of 15 days to show up. Repeated calls to Schneider revealed that 7 days after pick-up our stuff was still in New Jersey. I got no follow-up calls from the main office, no apology not even an offer of a discount for having to extend my stay in Florida by 2 weeks. All they did was blame the driver. The driver in turn was apologetic but claimed not to even know the company that hired him that well. These companies have the same MO, underestimate to get you to sign on and then raise the price. They put in the fine print of the contract that it could take up to a month for your stuff to get to it's destination but promise that that is just a formality. These companies need to be regulated in some way because they have nothing to fear when they rip you off. If you don't pay in protest they just keep your stuff.
