As suspected the diagnosis by another veterinarian missed the mark and there was good reason to question it. So, we were pleased that Dr. Morgan allayed our concerns from that perspective.
We are also very pleased that she is only 10 minutes away. Although the occasion has not arisen to take our 13 YO dog to her, I anticipate we will be doing that in the not too far future at which point it will be a blessing to have to travel 10 minutes rather than 60 with peace of mind that she is making assessments we are completely confident with, as upcoming assessments for our older dog will inevitably be critical.
Although we are extremely pleased and have no complaints, I am also not jumping up and down for joy, but I don't know exactly why. Perhaps it is just that Dr. Morgan is such a calm, quiet personality?
Regardless, I feel confident and comfortable to entrust my dogs' health to her.
We have returned to this clinic many times since the initial review and we are satisfied with the services we receive.
Unfortunately one of the recent visits was to euthanize my older dog. This is never an easy situation on anyone's part. The staff showed genuine empathy and sent a card with their sympathy, signed by all the staff. We do appreciate the smaller, more personal atmosphere for the non-emergency visits and the dogs (new puppy included) love to go there.
We also subscribe to less traditional medicine, so I am grappling with sometimes mixed messages regarding vaccines and flea and tick preventive, since they claim to be more holistically oriented.
On one occasion one of the staff members seemed extremely stressed that I changed my mind regarding picking up prescriptions as opposed to ordering them online as I originally intended and let me know, at that time, that they need 24 hours notice. Since it does not require a prescription to purchase, I really didn't think it would be such a big deal and I was unaware, until that visit that this was their standard operating procedure.
It always irks me that after spending thousands of dollars anywhere, how staff can be indignant. There are many alternatives and this is a choice we made. I want to support businesses who appreciate my patronage!
Having said that, I will chalk this up to a one time event considering maybe she had a bad day or had to deal with someone else's dog's euthanasia, because generally speaking, the staff is very warm, kind and friendly and that is why we ultimately go there, not necessarily because they are the very best with the latest greatest top of the line state of the art technology.
I think the prices are slightly on the high side, but not nearly as high as the previous holistic veterinarian who provided two very expensive incorrect and serious diagnosis. As I stated previously, we are more concerned about compassionate care provided to our dogs and excellent customer service. I'm willing to pay more if I know I can get that.
UPDATE: It's been frustrating to have found two different veterinarians we were very satisfied with, whom have both left this practice, which is a questionable trend and we are wondering if it is a reflection on the practice or ownership itself.
Prices are very high which is also questionable in respect to whether the business is thriving.
Customer service has been inconsistent, with Tammy always being phenomenally friendly and helpful, while others confrontational.
It is difficult to get medication without an appointment so I feel like we are being nickeled and dimed continually after spending thousands of dollars in the past year alone.
Although I am a knowledgable and experienced dog owner/breeder/trainer of more than 40 years, I am sometimes treated as if I have never had exposure to dogs or any of their issues, such as fleas and treatment... I did not appreciate the accusatory remarks from a long standing employee after my dogs picked up fleas from the practice and coincidentally just after the vet had communicated there was a dog in the previous week with so many fleas and quot;you could see it's skin crawland quot;. When I asked if they treat the clinic, I was told no. As a diligent and responsible owner (to the undesirable extent of using carcinogenic Frontline and Advantix... and paying exorbitant amounts to treat my house and .75 acres of yard), I do not appreciate being confronted by a staff member in a condescending way about how to treat for fleas or the fact that they themselves do not practice what they preach.
The same staff member also rudely communicated to me the requirement for calling ahead to order medication. Not having known this is their MO, it would have been preferable to communicate what their procedure is prior to rudely reprimanding me as if I were a child!
We selected this practice for the holistic approach to veterinary care and I have yet to receive anything other than traditional care for my dogs. So I feel their immune systems have been compromised as a result.
One other benefit of Clayton Veterinary Associates is the wonderful caring and supportive staff employed there. I have been a frequent caller/visitor over the past year and have never been made to feel as though my questions are an imposition. The techs have expertise in many areas, including nutrition, and Sandy, the receptionist is a genuinely kind individual. She greets my dogs like old friends with every visit.
