"When homeowner called for an estimate I was told to just measure the driveway without anyone being home. So I measured he driveway and sent her the written detailed proposal. A year later she contacted us to do the job. We told her no problem and moved forward with her job. At that time she asked no questions about this project. We scheduled the rip out and prep for the driveway to pave. On excavation day we tore up the old asphalt and put down the stone on the driveway area. We did extra digging in order for water to flow to edge of driveway, due to nature of the driveway - there was not alot of pitch. Nothing that could not be handled by us. At excavation again no questions were asked by the homeowner. Driveway was let to set for a few weeks to allow sub-base to settle. During that time I received two phone calls on my cell from the homeowner asking for a paving date. There were no other concerns about the driveway except she wanted the date. On the morning of paving day the company arrived on site and was there for an hour before going to pick up the asphalt. Still no questions were asked. But when we went to the plant to pick up asphalt the customer said to a crew member that she wanted water to go to the [Member Information Removed] and then disappeared from job-site. At the time of paving it would be impossible to make any changes because the entire driveway would need to be dug alot deeper and sub-base changed, also a curbing would need to be installed to help dirt on the edges to not flow on asphalt. Now the asphalt arrived and was on-site and ready to pave. Prior to paving her driveway I called her cell to discuss this matter and explain all options with her. I told her if she wanted we would take the asphalt and go pave the next job (that was down the [Member Information Removed]) and come back and address changes she could make. Obviously to do this wouldn't be the same price so I explained to her some pricing. Also said if there is a problem we could install a drain after the fact instead of doing the extra digging and curbing. I gave her a price for a small drain and she agreed to it and to move forward that day with the paving. She came home and everything was explained to her again face to face. We came to a verbal agreement and the crew started to pave the driveway. When the driveway was completed she said it was a really nice job. I might add, the driveway did come out beautiful !! That night I received an email that she was not happy that I didn't tell her to put curbing. There is no reason why I can be responsible for her not asking for belgium block curbing. The job came out great - looks beautiful. She had more than enough time to raise any concerns or ask any questions she had. This wasn't a rushed job. She had our estimate for over a year and from her initial phone call this year to completing the job she had three months to ask any questions. You can't wait for asphalt to be on site to make demands and then disappear. I explain everything in detail on our proposals but the homeowner should be onsite for the estimate and the work."
