I found Ten Plus Service on Angie's List. I called, got an answering machine, and left a message. Two days later I called and left a message again. Two days after that I received a return call. The employee apologized profusely for the delay in returning my call and added my name to the schedule. She said she would call the day before to give me a time frame for the visit. On the scheduled day, my doorbell rang around 8:45a.m. and there was the Ten Plus guy holding the old part, telling me it was the temperature sensor and that it was repaired and ready to go! It was $140 for the visit and $48 for the part. The service call is high relative to other pool companies in the area but more than worth it. Consider $188 and a working heater vs. $355 (and counting) for a non-working heater.
As an added bonus, I asked him to take a look at the filter valve and to put me on the schedule for a repair/replacement. He told me what the problem was, where to find the correct parts, and how to repair it myself. The parts were less than $30 and the repair was embarrassingly simple (I paid my previous pool company $133 for the same repair last summer.) He could have easily returned for another $140 service call. When was the last time anyone heard that?! I love this company.
My call was returned on Friday, and they said they would come out on Monday. The woman on the phone clearly explained the pricing for the first visit, extra time and return visits if needed. She then let me know that she would be calling on Monday to let me know what time they would arrive.
Monday at around 8:50 I received the call saying they would be arriving between 3:00 and 6:00
They arrived a 4:00 and went right to work.
The two gentlemen on this call were extremely personable and the technician was clearly knowledgeable. The problem was diagnosed in minutes. The tech. was clearly unhappy that he did not have a replacement part in his truck. They could have very easily scheduled a return visit with the required part (which would have meant more money in their pocket). Instead, the tech. showed me the part, how to remove and replace it, and suggested possible places to get the part.
As if this was not enough, as he was packing to go he recalled that they had a heater with them that they had just removed from an earlier call. He and his partner were able to pull the part from that old heater and use it in my heater to get it going. NO EXTRA CHARGE. He strongly recommended that I still purchase and install a new part because he could not guarantee that the replacement he used would last any length of time. But I now had a working heater in time for my big July 4th party, and I had a service technician that I will call for any job he can do.
