We were 7 months pregnant with our first baby and decided right before the holidays to begin our basement renovation project to prepare for all of the extended family that would be visiting. We chose Nina and Paul of Designer Homes of New Jersey in Chester after interviewing over a dozen contractors over the summer and fall. Of all the other quotes we obtained for the job, theirs was the only all-inclusive bid ? it included all the fixtures, tile, flooring, everything! Most bids did not include any of the materials for the completion of the job. With a baby on the way, it was critical for us to know the entire scope and cost of the project upfront. Most importantly, they were able to provide us with the design solution to incorporate everything we wanted in the space! No one else came close to making this happen ? we were told time and time again that we wouldn?t be able to have the bathroom where we wanted it. We always felt that the decisions and recommendations that were made would have been done in their own home. We checked their references and were surprised to hear back from everyone that we contacted, even those that were on vacation out of the country! Nina helped us obtain all the necessary permits for the job and made many suggestions for where to pick out our finishes. Mr. Paul was at the site EVERYDAY and provided us with a daily recap of the work and what we should anticipate in advance. He was always gracious with our over analytical questions and never hesitated to address our concerns. All of his workers and service providers were courteous and meticulous especially Juan ? the hardest working man we?ve ever met! - and the site was tidied up at the end of each day. We never had a problem getting in touch with them and even when a house guest accidentally hit the main gas shut off thinking it was a light switch that caused the heat to turn off overnight, the plumber was here immediately and only giggled a little? Tearing down the walls of a 50 year old house exposed some issues we weren?t prepared for but we felt confident that the solutions were done in a cost effective way that didn?t cut corners. The previous owners had some very creative electrical and plumbing systems, and even though we thought everything was fine before, the new ones are more efficient. They always promised that the work would be completed before the holidays and the birth of our daughter, but we were prepared for all of the extra kinks that came along the way to cause big delays. We were ecstatic when almost everything was perfect right before Christmas. We have already had Mr. Paul and Juan back to help us with other projects around the house. It?s nice to find contractors that are dependable, honest, and you know that you don?t have to negotiate every dollar of every job because you?re getting quality work, at a fair price. We have had only rave reviews of our basement renovations and have hosted many family members ? it?s like they have their own apartment space. Of all the things that could have gone wrong taking on this kind of project during the holidays in our last trimester, this renovation went uncharacteristically smooth!
