This is the second time I worked with Jim Russo of the rest of the team at American Financial. In addition to great rates, they were very knowledgeable and easy to work with. Jim was always available when I had a question throughout the process. The secure electronic process was easy to use and made the experience much easier. Most of all, they was no mad-rush prior to closing. Everything was on-time for a stress-free closing.

Michael Stone and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough. A pleasure to work with them. No question about where I go next time I need a loan.

The good: Initial conversation went well; fair fees and competitive rates. Broker was responsive and eager to proceed with the loan (called me a couple times even after I told him I'd get back in a few hours - hey eagerness is ok with me). The Bad: After signing the commitment papers and paid for rate-lock/appraisal, getting a call back was non-existent (always says he's busy). To be fair the broker was usually available when I called The Ugly: The biggest issues is that AFMC uses Springhouse Appraisals (an aggregator who makes money on the difference between what you pay and how low they can pay their appraisers). Their business model depends on how low they can spend on subcontractor appraisers - so how much experience do you think their hires have? My appraiser was SHADY. Suppose to be Philly based (first question I asked my broker) but his business address is a 3rd floor apartment that was on the rental market. His cell number is Jersey based and he missed a comp property on the next block but picked one up that's half mile away (too far in Philly). Needless to say it was LOW!! I don't mean a little under but laughing-on-the-floor low. At that point to pull out of the deal means losing $1250 (rate lock & appraisal fee) so AFMC would not care. My broker wasn't helpful even though I showed him the sold property on the next block. (he said he'll talk to his boss but ended up not calling back). Bottom Line: I made a mistake by not using my regular mortgage guy (he had too many projects and wanted me to wait). My recommendation is to use someone else if you live in Philly and need a high appraisal. I think Jersey would be ok with this company. Otherwise they provide competitive rates and have lower than average fees with competent mortgage brokers on staff - when you can get a hold of them.

Very satisfied overall. Used their services several times already and will use them again. Some of the best rates. Friendly and professional. Easy and prompt communication. For re-financing they sent clerk right to my house. Very convenient. However, the rep was almost 2 hrs late because "she forgot some documents" and had to go back to retrieve them. No biggie but one time a young fellow called me the day before closing to inform that they were missing some information and that they forgot to request it ahead of time so we had to scramble.

They are very good. They were thorough, made it easy, didn't have to go there, it was a pretty smooth transaction. I highly recommend the gentleman that i used. He followed up on everything. I got a mortgage at a low interest rate at 2.65 for a 15 year mortgage.

The experience with them was great. They were able to get it quite fast, it was a fast turn around. The price was cheaper than the last time that I had done it. I would recommend them to other people. Everything was done through email, and they would respond the same day.

It went well. They've been very good in finding the best rates possible in the marketplace. It's really not any different than going to a bank and refinancing. It's probably about $5000 to make a new mortgage. I folded it into the amount being refinanced. I wrote them a check for the actual fee of about $400. I think they made more money in the transaction, I just don't know where. In both cases, they found the best rate. My credit union could not beat the rate. You can do all of the paperwork online. They send someone to your house for the closing. One time, we had a lawyer and the other time we had a paralegal. We did the final closing at the dining room table. The price was no more or no less than anyone else. It's average. I don't think you could do much better.

My experience has been very good. There was nothing that I disliked. They were pretty much on time. The interest rate that they offered was attractive. The fees were not very high. I did not have any issues with the service.

It wasn't good. In the beginning it was very confusing and there were a lot of reservations. The original mortgage was good and everything was clear but the refinance was not. The only reason we went there was because of the rates and they gave good rates but the numbers at closing were not anywhere close to where they said they would be. They basically left us trying to figure out what the heck happened and we lost a few thousand dollars here and there. It became increasingly confusing between us and multiple mortgage places and a bunch of other people. They are one of many mortgage companies. I'm not sure if we would use them again.

They were really good. They were on top of anything I needed to accommodate to getting the loan, and they were in touch constantly. There were no lapses and no dropping the ball, they were very good. This was the first time that I used them, but I keep their card on my refrigerator, they were that good.

They were fine. It is a mortgage so they basically get the mortgage application fee and then they end up selling it to another bank so I am not sure how they take care of their own income or revenue stream. They had low interest rates but they were not very timely on some of their responses. They were not very good but they were good and I do not have any huge complaints about them. The mortgage industry is pretty frustrating in general these days but it was their interest rate that was attractive to me.
