I expected this to be a miserable and messy job. The roof rafters were damaged from the tree and framing repairs were performed. The base layer was cedar shakes with 2 asphalt shingle layers above. When you strip a roof like this, the debris resembles mulch. When they were done, the area around the garage was spotless, all of the nails and staples were gone and the roof looked great. These folks are incredibly hard working craftsmen. Extra touches, like laying down plywood for the dumpster to rest on to prevent damage to the driveway, were appreciated.
I used McNulty to replace the roof on our home 10 years ago. Same situation where there were three roofs on a home with a lot of dormers. The price then, like now, was very fair for the work done, and the finished work was exemplary.
When I called them this time for the estimate on the garage, their guy (Tommy) was at the house within 30 minutes to give me an estimate. After I told them to start, they were here within two days (as promised) and finished within 2 days (again as promised). All on a handshake. The price was exactly as quoted.
I continue to unconditionally recommend McNulty Roofing to everyone.
I first dealt with this provider several years ago. As a matter of fact, I made contact because of a Angie's List review. My first contact with Dennis, the owner, was over the phone. I explained a problem regarding a leak into my attic. Prior to that, I invited two other roofers to diagnose the problem and to give me an estimate to fix it. These roofers came up with an estimate of $1,300 and $3,200. The difference being the number of shingles they recommended be replaced. I called McNulty Roofing, and Dennis answered. When I described the problem he told me that I didn't have a roof problem, I have a ventilation problem. The next day he sent someone over to improve air circulation. I don't remember exactly what he charged, but is was under $400. And no more leak!
Because of this favorable experience, I asked a friend, who had received several estimates to replace a very large roof, to call McNulty. The estimate was $7000 less than any other. Dennis did the job and I have a very happy friend.
In September, 2013, I felt that I was due to have my roof replaced. This required the old roof be removed, per building code. I decided not to get any estimates
Since then, I have recommended McNulty to a friend and to my son. Both were extremely satisfied in every way.
My last association with McNulty was last February. He removed and replaced my existing roof .After a heavy rain, I had a leak around a skylight. The next day Dennis sent someone to fix it.
I am totally comfortable recommending him to anyone. He sticks to his word. He is knowledgeable and his crew are professional.
McNulty Time terms:
To begin no later than 11/26/11 (though verbally he said he expected to begin by 11/21/11)
Tto end by 12/10/11contract signed 11/13/11 and he said he would start the beginning of the following week - he said he put the 26th just in case he needed more time.
He did not start until after the date he was supposed to end. (note that weather was NOT an issue)I'm no roofer but the job itself appears satisfactory. And he did not finish untill January 8th, 2012. (He took a month to do a job that he said would take (and should have taken) 3 days.)
He offered nothing in the way of compensation for the delay and I did not ask. After I retained his services (but before he started) I looked as Angie's list. I should have taken other reports of lack of responsiveness more seriously. The main reason I used him was that he did a siding job for me about 15 years ago.
His crew also broke a sidewalk block (though they concealed the break quite well after I had already taken photos). I did not address this with them or ask for compensation. They never bothered to disclose to me that this had happened.
They also left some trash around the house (I took photos before cleaning up). Coffee cups and some small pieces of roofing material and siding were left and they left the box the siding came in on my porch.
"When we started the roof, the customer picked special-order siding. When we got done the roof, we used the siding that the supply house had and we needed to wait three weeks until the rest of the siding came in to finish the job. If he had to pick up a shingle or two and a cup, he should have picked it up and said, "Thank you for an incredibly nice job at a price that was unbelievable." And if he wanted to take pictures, he should have taken before & after pictures of his house to show the quality and workmanship of the job. We did a job that nobody else wanted and would have charged him twice the price we did. A simple thank you would have sufficed."
"The member called us to come out and look at a leak he said others could not find. We took off the siding and gutterguard and showed him where the leak was. We told him what needed to be done and that he needed to get the gutter guys out to do it. We temporarily patched the leak. We went back out to the property when the gutter guys were there to show them what needed to be done. We went above and beyond what we were contracted to do. Then, we reinstalled the siding and charged him $350 for a $950 job (a $600 discount) because he gave us the roof. When the gutter guys were done, he decided he didn't want the roof but he wanted us to come back and permanently fix the roof for $150. It appeared to us that the member had never intended to have us do the roof. We decided it would be best not to do anymore work for him. We did exactly and all that we were contracted to do."
