Because of a significant delay in our bathroom remodel we did not finalize our order with Ilkem Granite until January 2016. We went back into the Ilkem showroom because it had been 7 months since we originally placed the order to confirm everything. Our order had no issues and we confirmed granite color and installation with the sales representative as well as the owner. We even told the owner my wife was pregnant because at the time he was friendly. We also scheduled the template as well as the installation for all our granite. A few days later when the Ilkem came to deliver and install the granite we get a call from our contractor saying that the installers refuse to install the pieces we ordered in the shower. I was completely confused. At no point during our meetings with the owner or his sales representative were we told that pieces for the shower would not be installed (we even confirmed installation with his sales rep during our final meeting). Even on the invoice it states price includes "Materials, Template and INSTALLATION". I immediately called Ilkem. After speaking with a service representative, the owner comes on the phone and screams "no we never install shower pieces, your contractor should do that", "the process involves much more then just installing the counter top and we need thinset to do all this". WHAT??? Why would you only install half the project? He proceeded to yell and scream. After he finished yelling I said to take everything back since he essentially voided our signed contract by refusing to install all pieces purchased. The owner said fine but he was going to charge me $250 for templating. Realizing I was about to lose my order and spend $250, I mistakenly gave in and had them install the counter top. The shower pieces were placed in a separate room to keep them out of the way until our contractor could install them. Two days later our contractor attempts to install the shower pieces and all of the pieces do not measure correctly. None of the pieces were templated correctly and there were gaps and seams everywhere. My wife called the owner to inform him of this and he responded by screaming at her about how our contractor doesn't know what he is doing and we are being unreasonable. My wife immediately starts crying which only makes him yell at her more. Mind you she is 4 months pregnant and the owner knew this. He offered us a $100 credit for almost 10 square feet of incorrectly cut Granite. We refuse and ask him to come to our house to see how awful these pieces look. He comes to our house and after seeing how bad the pieces are cut he ups his credit to $500. We took the credit because honestly we didn't want to deal with him any more. Who screams at a pregnant women? In the end we probably lost a couple hundred dollars and put the completion of our bathroom back several weeks because now we need to find new Granite people to install about 10 square feet.
everyone loves the kitchen. The reservations I have/had are 1) Ilkem was very understaffed at the time of my research and purchase, you have to hunt someone down for service or information. At times the owner is the only one there to write up an order, so customers must wait. 3) communication problems, which likely result from above. As an example, my contractor simply wanted the granite installers to drop down the hoses from the kitchen sink as they installed it so that he could get at them more easily for plumbing. The young staffers in the office said, "No problem; they will do anything you want." No they won't. When the installers came, they either could not comprehend what I wanted or did not want to do it. A call back to Ilkem resulted in the owner, Ali, yelling in the background, "We are not installing that
plumbing." Simple miscommunication and chain of command problems.Yet, several months later, I went back to Ilkem for a price on my bathroom counter tops. Ali could not have been more charming nor generous in his pricing. His daughter, Ilkem, was now in charge of customer service in the lobby, very efficient and professional. I am hopeful that the problems have been resolved so that more customers will enjoy the beautiful results.

On the day of installation, August 5th, the finished edge did not match the top surface. This couldn't be determined before the slab was cut for our project because slabs have raw edges in the warehouse. Apparently the slab had been treated when it was mined and that changed the surface color (which I love) from the true color which showed through at the now finished edge. They applied a sealant, saying it would bring the color closer. It did not. They came back several times to try different chemicals on the stone. I expressed my dissatisfaction multiple times for the defective product. I got the run around that one of the owners was trying to contact the supplier and they were trying to fit me in... for three months.
Only after writing a letter of complaint, on November 12th, did the owner agree to replace the granite before Thanksgiving if my husband's suggestion of mixing a dye with epoxy to see if it would adhere to the granite. This turned out to be a semi-permanent solution. In high traffic areas - in front of the stove and sink as well as along the seating area the dye wore of in a matter of months. Ilkem gave us the can of dye before Thanksgiving and we parted ways.
They should have tried the sealant at the shop and informed me when the edge didn't match the surface so that I could pick something new. I should have rejected the granite before it came off of their truck and into my home. Should have, but didn't.
As much as I enjoy the granite in my kitchen, it's quite beautiful, it pains me every time I look at the edge. There were months of poor customer service and now my husband has to retouch the edge with the dye and epoxy combination.
I understand that this is a freak thing to happen with stone. There were two or three other slabs of granite that were from the same batch as mine. I wonder how the customers who bought those fared, or did Ilkem send those slabs back to their supplier?

As you mentioned, we have a very quick turnaround and I am so glad you were satisfied with this. Thank you so much for choosing Ilkem Marble&Granite."
My problems came with the fabrication and installation. This was not a complicated project. The top was for a 30and quot; vanity and was to be cut as a banjo top. When they came out to install, the sink cut-out was set way too far forward, so there was no way the sink was going to fit in the vanity. I had no choice to send it back. Further, Ilkem no longer had the stone I chose in stock, so they could not make me a replacement. Luckily, they refunded my deposit. I would not recommend this company to anyone.
