Project 1: Crown Reconstruction Deterioration of the chimney crown from moisture needed repair. ? Chatham Chimney did reconstruction of the chimney crown, replacing the crown, or top of the chimney, with a downward sloping pattern that will allow for proper water runoff. They also installed expansion joints around the top flue tile to allow for expansion and contraction during cold weather. They then installed a cap to prevent moisture damage and permit the proper flow of exhaust out of the chimney into the atmosphere. All the work on the crown was sealed and waterproofed with a 100% vapor permeable waterproofing agent to enhance the drying out process. ? They also repointed damaged mortar joints and reapplying new mortar to reestablish the structural integrity of the chimney. ? The firm also performed a dryer vent cleaning while they were here. Positives: Family business. Father and son involved. Son is volunteer fireman. Dad started business after finding it difficult to get good service on the chimney for his own home. I would recommend Rich highly.
