Charley's Painting

When buying my house, I was hit last minute with the need to paint the front porch, all window frames, all doors, and the eaves of the house in order to close. I received several quotes, Charley's was the most expensive however they said they could match our necessary timeline and spoke of a specialization of older houses, which this was. Charley is a very smooth talker and knows exactly what you want to hear, the problem was they could not deliver. First red flag: They at first gave us an insurance cert with a different name on it, claiming this was some sort of sub contracting company called Rainbow Painting even though it would be overseen and the name on the contract would be with Charleys Painting. After some negotiation, we made our contract with Rainbow Painting so that liabilities would be covered and the names would match from the insurance cert to the contract. Second Red Flag: From the first meeting, Charley or the head of the crew Jose would be consistently late or complete no shows for meetings. Not 20 minutes late, hours claiming a variety of different excuses. They seemed to be under the impression that they could just show up whenever they wanted and it would be convenient for us as well. We had to take off of work, reschedule meetings just to be able to meet with them. Third Red Flag: The original timeline was to be 3 days, of about 10 hours of work each day with at least 3 guys on at any given time. When we visited the site, there were sometimes only 2 or even 1 person working at a time. They did not always arrive early when they were supposed to and left early in the afternoon resulting in the work not being even close to finished by the end of the third day. In the interest of fairness, those were 3 days of a heatwave that we had where temperatures reached the upper 90's. However instead of risking the job not being finished on time and causing me to lose a house I was buying after putting thousands of dollars into it, they should have just had some guys on standby to take over for the afternoon to get it done. This was very poor planning on their part. The work area was left messy at the end of each day with paint footprints tracked everywhere, and garbage and equipment laid out everywhere. Also, none of the workers spoke english except the foreman who spoke broken english, so communication was near impossible unless Charley was on site which he rarely was. Ultimately a job that was supposed to be finished in 3 days, ended up taking about 2 weeks and they weren't even finished we just had enough and wanted them gone. They did have limited access to the house which resulted in two windows with AC units in them to not be painted, that was agreed upon when it presented a difficulty. However, during the final walkthrough 1 entire door, 1 entire window, and the entire front porch had not been painted at all which Charley didn't even know about until we pointed it out to him. The windows were done very sloppily with paint all over the glass panes, glazing was very sloppy and looks like it was never even smoothed out and applied too thick. The paint is already chipping and flaking and in some areas you can see the color underneath coming through. Charley did give us a discount at the end and he blamed everything on his foreman, however the work was simply not of a high quality, the workers spoke little to no english, they were not on time, did not keep to their schedule and because of it put a major transaction at risk. I would not recommend them to anybody. There isn't even a legitimate address on their website.
