The bathroom came out beyond our expectations and today is one of our favorite rooms in the house.
This is the first major construction project I have lived through, so I really didn't know what to expect relative to a contractor. After hearing many horror stories and watching many movies with awful contractors, I'm so glad we found Scott. He came highly recommended by our architect. He and his crew are very neat (which was incredibly important because we lived there through most of construction with young children), friendly to us and our neighbors (which helps keep the peace when things are looking messy!), and observe all local laws about noise in the mornings and on the weekends.
Both the quality of the materials used and work completed is excellent. At every stage of construction, everyone who has come by to see it has commented on the high quality. Scott and his crew gave great advice on selecting materials (e.g. flooring), improving the project (e.g. making our new fireplace work aesthetically and with our plans for the room), and when to purchase things so we didn't have too many extra things laying around the house. They also problem-solved with us when things did not turn out as we expected. For example, when our stairs were installed we had less room than we thought in our new mudroom. But, we were able to talk through the differences to come up with a very workable solution.
When it was necessary to subcontract specific portions of the work, all of the subcontractors followed Scott's example with a high quality of work, neatness and professionalism. He has relationships with many different subcontractors, as well as suppliers, and we have had zero issues with anyone we've encountered at Scott's recommendation throughout this process.
There have been multiple issues with the building department in town throughout our project. Scott has kept us up with the specific issues and the delays they caused. There have been delays for other reasons, but for the most part Scott has been able to keep us up to date on what has been going on. Scott has been on target with describing the length of the project, how it will happen, and what obstacles we might encounter along the way, which has been a tremendous help in keeping my sanity throughout the process.
One thing that came up that proved problematic was that a ceiling had to be taken down in one room to add lighting. We were not expecting this, and based on its location and utility during the project we had to move out of the house for a portion of the work. While we weren't thrilled, the explanation that came about WHY it needed to be done (and why it was not initially anticipated) were enough to make us feel comfortable with the inconvenience.
I would highly recommend Scott and his crew for any construction project. We've recommended him to others, and thus far the feedback has all been similar to what was described above.
