It went terrible. The contractor said it would take one week-- which may have been a miscommunication. After he was hired, he said it would take two weeks. At the end of the first week, he said he was confident that everything would be done by the end of the second week, except the floors. He apparently quit at the end of three weeks and has not returned phone calls, text messages, or emails. Approximately 45% of the work was done for which we paid 71% of the contract amount. He was careless (slopped stain on moulding; paint on walls; lost screws for fan blades; broke ceiling fan), disrespectful (allowed sheetrock dust to spread throughout the entire house; went into our fridge and took bottles of water; emptied the candy bowl), dishonest (when he left, he took materials we purchased (masking tape, box of nails, plastic tarps; caulking gun), and lazy (didn't sand entire floor before staining; worked very short days). The hardwood floors he stained need to be fixed. They are gritty due to not being sanded between coats of polyurethane. The closet floor looks terrible. The laminate floor he installed is good except for the closet where the boards have gaps. The crown moulding was installed upside down. He did not complete many of the items he was contracted to do: NURSERY Wall prep - Terrible job and needs to be redone Ceiling Painting - Did not remove items on ceiling, so gaps are shown. Entry & closet doors not installed Base moulding, casing, and chair rail incomplete Shoe moulding not started Floors are gritty GUEST ROOM Walls need to be sanded and painted Ceiling not painted Base moulding and casing incomplete Shoe moulding not started Floors are gritty Closet doors not installed Interior door not painted MASTER BEDROOM Nail holes not filled. Casing not caulked. Paint work messy (as per new contractor) Closet doors not installed Interior door not painted Floor transition not installed BATHROOM Ceiling not replaced Walls not painted Interior door not painted Crown & shoe moulding and casing not started Interior door not painted MISC Ceiling in living room not done (to be fair, we took this off the contract when we saw how slow this was going). Storm door not installed Hall closet and closet door not painted Cellar door not installed HELP One guy, "B", was a nice enough guy, but always seemed like he was out partying a little to long. He also worked without a shirt-- maybe to prove he didn't have a beach ball shoved under his shirt. On the Saturday of his first week, another of his helpers, "J", took our pressure washer and put it in the trunk of his car. The contractor caught on to this and got it back for us. Shortly after, we installed a security camera. A third helper, "J2" was actually a good worked and we were relieved when he was there. Using the camera, we saw that on his last day, the contractor arrived and sat in his car for 30 minutes. Then he went inside and started collecting his tools. He went back to his car for 30 minutes, then packed up his tools from the garage, and re-entered the house to get a bottle of water before leaving and never returning. We have texted, called, and emailed and he continues to ignore us. We now have to hire a new contractor to clean up his poor work and finish the job. (I listed the quality as D because of the hard wood floors and upside crown moulding. The other work he did was actually good).
