John and Bill did great job all around. I was very pleased with their responsiveness during the planning stage when we were seeking quotes, and I had no reason to change that opinion once they began work. They showed up when they said they would, did what they said they would and more, and charged what they said they would. Not much more you can ask of a contractor. On top of that they're both really nice guys. The quality of the work is very good, and exhibits skill and attention to detail, both highly valued traits when someone is ripping stuff off your house. I will use them again, and do not hesitate to recommend Carpenter Partners very highly.
Description of Work: Repaired two bay windows in front of house that had extensive rot. Replaced windows, removed old pine sheathing, replaced vapor barrier, installed new PVC sheathing. Exterior and interior trim.

OK - for starters, this was ten years ago, and maybe Carpenter Partners is doing better work now. I have been reluctant to enter this negative review, but my wife points out that after ten years, we are still living with the problems - a leak in our downstairs bathroom in heavy rains, peeling paint from the sides of the garage (where drip cap wasn't installed), a badly dry-walled entry way and repair on the ceiling inside the garage (which resulted from their efforts originally to repair the leaking roof), the lack of hatches to permit flushing of debris from under the decking, the lack of jalousie windows in the gable and a larger than 1" gap below the gable which allows incredible drafts into the attic in the winter and bug infestation during the warmer months. In terms of appearance, the project met, and possibly exceeded, expectations. But, in terms of functionality, it is a failure. To be fair, Carpenter Partners returned at least three times to try to fix the leaking problems. However, in the process, they left us with some of the worst drywall joints I've ever seen in the ceiling panels they replaced in the garage and entry way. Because of the mess of trying to sand and correct this problem, I have painted over it and lived with it. They also removed several runs of the Trex planking and replaced it, having damaged it in its removal, with new Trex planks that do not match the color of the originals. And, the leak that begins around one of the posts and enters the house in the downstairs bathroom never got resolved. We have resorted to packing the base of the post with plastic sheeting, which works - up to a point. I also discovered, in efforts to fix the drip edge problem, which allows water off the roof to run down the siding instead of into the gutters, that many of the screws used to secure the Trex planks penetrated the continuous membrane. Carpenter Partners' final effort to fix our problems consisted of inviting me to sue their roofing subcontractor. Did I mention that they installed a fixed window in the gable and not one that can be opened? All in all, a very unhappy result.
Description of Work: The project consisted of demolition of the existing wood shingle walls around the top of our garage (which looked like a Burger King roof), construction of a Trex planked deck on the garage roof with posts and railings in place of the demolished walls and construction of a large dormer in the sloped roof facing the garage deck to provide head-room at the top of the attic stairs. The project also included installing a continuous membrane sub-roof under the new deck (which involved a specialized heat application process and was sub-contracted by Carpenter Partners to a roofing firm). As designed, the new deck was to have removable portions to enable the cleaning of debris that would inevitably build up under the decking and the windows in the gable were to be jalousie windows, so they could be opened to provide additional summer ventilation in the attic.

They were great. They arrived when they said they would and conducted themselves professionally. I was particularly impressed with their attention to detail and how quickly they got the job done. When they left, they were careful to clean up. The price was very competitive and was exactly what they said it would be. I highly recommend Carpenter Partners.
Description of Work: They reconfigured my garage, replacing two garage doors with a single wide door. They needed to reframe part of the roof and redo the siding on the front of the garage.

After contacting a number of contractors/carpenters to do the job, their quote as very reasonable (second cheapest) but more importantly they came highly recommended from a friend and were very professional. I was impressed with how quickly they got the job done and how great it looks.
Description of Work: I had two 8' wide garage doors that I had replaced with one 12' wide door. Carpenter Partners removed the old doors and reframed the opening for the new door. As part of the job, they had to raise the ceiling joists to accomodate a new garage door opener and reside the front of the garage with cedar shingles.
