It went fantastically!  Joe and one of his workers came out about an hour after I called him and quickly removed the stopper.  After the sink was rinsed thoroughly and free of Drano Joe showed me that the old stopper was itself broken and the things under the sink were rusted out.  They replaced all the defective parts, sorry I am not more technical but I can't remember the proper names for each part.  Joe explained everything he did thoroughly to me, each step of the way and asked me if I was satisfied with everything when he finished.  I am very happy with everything.  Very very professional and I now have a plumber who I will hire to address some other plumbing issues I have at some point.
