We contracted Campano and Son in the fall of 2014 to replace an old wooden deck with one made with composite materials. Frank came by, assessed the work and spoke to us about the relative benefits of a composite deck over a wooden one. We felt confident in his knowledge and the fact that he was an engineer. We debated it but agreed on a composite deck even though the cost was higher. He provided us options and pointed us where to look at the examples of decking at Somerville Lumber.
Due to their backlog, we did have to wait a bit but fortunately we did not need the deck built in a hurry. I figured the backlog also meant that they have a lot of interested customers. Once they started, we were not disappointed. The crew was professional and did not disrupt us. They had to put in a lot of extra effort since we had chosen custom posts and railings and individual holes had to be drilled to set each individual baluster. They did a careful job with a high degree of craftsmanship.
We were very pleased with the work and the deck looked great. A few months ago we did notice that some of the posts and railings had shifted a bit out of alignment. Frank came by and assessed that the posts and railings needed some adjusting or might need to be replaced. Once the weather warmed, his son and his crew came by and ended up replacing a number of railings and posts since the wood had warped. He explained pressure-treated lumber sold now comes from fast growth tree farms and is not as stable as the wood that came from old growth forests used in the past. So although the deck had been built a year and a half earlier, the crew came back in good faith and at no cost and replaced any necessary posts or railings that needed it. That spoke a lot to the integrity of Campano and Son. The deck looks better than ever!
I am happy to recommend Campano and Son as fine deck craftsmen and professionals and would contact them again if I had another home improvement project.
Would happily be a reference for them !
He also made very solid steps/railing for two exterior doors that are not only sturdy, but very attractive.
We are thrilled with the deck and with the experience we had with Frank. Everything he did was of superior quality and Frank is a pleasure to deal with. We highly recommend his work and are very pleased with the experience.
In the future if I need any more repairs or renovations will definitely call them first.
I contacted Campano & Son regarding tearing down my old deck and replacing with new composite deck. I wanted to also add steps to the backyard and excavate under the old deck ? with and hardscape patio under the new deck footprint.
Let me start by saying we are extremely pleased with the experience of working with Frank, his son ? Jim ? and their crew. They are very professional, considerate and take pride in their work.
I contacted several contractors. Frank was very responsive to my first call and scheduled time to meet with us, to understand our vision for the project and offer his own ideas and insights. We decided on a composite deck and railings and to add a weatherproof membrane between the upper and lower levels, as well as electrical service for a ceiling fan and power outlets. Frank is true gentlemen and always took the time to listen and offer options. He explained the permit process and worked with us to schedule inspections and coordinate work with the other contractors.
Since Frank does not do the landscape and patio paver work, he offered the names of a couple landscape contractors he has worked with, and I was able to select one that also did a great job at a fair price. Frank also worked to coordinate work with and electrical contractor that I selected.
Jim and his crew always showed up to work when they said they would. They are very considerate and quiet?many days I did not even know they were here until I heard the tools. They kept a very neat jobsite, cleaning up at the end of each day and keeping us informed of progress. They take pride in their work and took the time to do the job right.
We are very pleased with the quality of work and have a beautiful new deck. We actually already had the crew back to replace the sliding door out to our deck. Again, Frank offered the suggestion to reverse the opening of the door to improve the traffic flow with the new stairs ? something we would not have thought of. Jim and team were again very conscientious in their work and, at the end of the day, with the new moldings and alignment with hardwood flooring, you would not know there was a replacement done.
accurately, we didn't have any problems with submitting for the construction permit. Construction was started as scheduled. All questions were addresses immediately. The work was done quickly with attention to details. The site was carefully cleaned after finishing the construction. The inspections were passed without any issues. Overall it was a very positive experience.
The entire service that was provided by Campano & Son was terrific. The estimate was well prepared, the price was a great value and the work displayed superior craftsmanship. Frank, Jim, Chris and Darren all were pleasant to work with and offered the opportunity for collaboration on the ongoing construction.
We are planning further refurbishment to our home and will continue to work with Campano & Son.
Frank (the owner) was extremely prompt and responsive the entire way, from the early planning/bid process right on through project completion. Frank contacted me within 24 hours of my sending an inquiry through A.L. After a few message exchanges on the site, Frank came right out to assess my project and provided me a competitive bid within 4 - 5 days. When weighing various contractor bids, one important factor for me was project start date. Frank initially estimated 6 - 7 weeks, based on his backlog at the time. The guidance offered before contract execution and initial deposit was spot on. Frank was quite responsive to my email inquiries and provided everything I needed to obtain building permit approval through my township. I also received multiple updates to inform me of his scheduling and when he expected to commence on my project.
My project was on the small side but the quality and timelines to completion was quite satisfactory. I wouldn't hesitate to consider Campano & Son LLC for any of my future project needs.
Frank was very professional responded to any questions and explained process. The workmanship is excellent and was done in a timely manner. The work site left very clean . Overall I'm happy I chose Campano , and would give a high recommendation
We contracted with them at the end of last year but, because of the extreme weather, they were only able to do the framing during the winter. Finally, at the middle of March,when the weather was ready to cooperate, they were able to tackle the rest. As others have said, Frank is very easy going and works well with the customer. We also appreciated Jim Covert, from Somerville Lumber, helping us in selecting the deck materials and railing as well as giving us design ideas.
It took them about three weeks to complete the 700 square foot deck with railings, and two sets of steps. They came back after the deck passed inspection,and cleaned up.
We are grateful to Frank, Jim, and Chris for the excellent and creative work they did. Everytime we look at this deck we feel happy and satisfied. We are looking forward to enjoying many fun times there. We would certainly recommend Campano and Son to anyone who is looking for quality work.
Most importantly, we are very impressed with the quality of their workmanship. Franks son Jimmy is an expert carpenter and he took the lead in this area. He is knowledgeable in that he made recommendations along the way to improve structural integrity that he could have easily overlooked. He has a very high standard of workmanship in all areas. Almost all projects have little things that weren't done exactly right, but I have to say that we did not find any issues at all. They paid attention to alot of the details, corners matching, boards lining up, posts, railings all level, etc. They were very responsive to any questions we had and always pleasant and friendly to talk to. I get the sense they are just genuinely good people that we could trust. They were also conscientious about cleaning up and putting things away to keep the area safe. This project lasted a few weeks and during a period when we had to wait for a week before they could come back, they put in temporary stairs so we could still use the deck. This was extra work for them but shows how considerate they were. Some contractors would just board up the entrance and say don't use the deck until we finish it but they knew we had kids and they wanted to provide a safe way to utilize the deck in the interim.
I would highly recommend Frank and his son!
P.S. I rated "B" for price because their estimate was not the lowest, nor was it the highest. But in the end, it was worth it given the quality outcome.
Frank was informative and not at all pushy as we were making our deck decisions.
He was prompt in answering our e-mailed questions.
Jim, Chris, and Frank did all the deck-building themselves;
we were very happy that work was not subcontracted out to others.
The men are reliable and showed up when they said they would.
They are industrious and they put in good work hours, despite hot temperatures.
Our 400 square foot Wolf PVC deck, neatly finished with picture-frame edge;
our two sets of stairs;
and our Timbertech Radiance railing
are all sturdily built, maintenance free, and beautiful.
Frank, Jim, and Chris did a great job and were pleasant to interact with.
We recommend Campano and Son.
The work was performed in as timely a way as the weather would permit.
The crew was friendly and polite and they cleaned up every day before going home.
The finished project was done with a high level of craftsmanship, with the many joints done in a precise way.
We especially appreciate that they worked on weatherproofing things below the deck, where they might not show, but will add to the longer term integrity of our house.
sturdy and very well made. Since I have some knee issues, it was important to me that the stairs be well built and not too steep. The result was perfect.
For the back porch, I wanted the old porch removed and replaced with a larger porch of composite materials. I was not sure exactly what to use but Frank and his team made some excellent recommendations on materials. He gave us
samples of what he had suggested so we would know what we were getting. The finished porch was exactly what I had
envisioned and more.... well built with a great design and color.
I am extremely pleased with the work that Frank Campano and his son did and would call him back
for other work I needed in the future. I would give this company the strongest recommendation.
