DeMartino Construction LLC

We have used James DeMartino for roofing issues for many years. He is always responsive, kind, and accommodating. We have had several problems over the years with the same section of our flat roof, including ice damming, leaking water, and damage from a neighbor's fireworks landing on the roof. This is the only company I will trust to address our pesky roof.

Our chimney had absolutely no flashing (discovered while trying to find a ceiling leak in our living room) so we
choose DeMartino's Construction to install counterflashing into our stucco chimney and flashing around the rest of the perimeter.
James DeMartino and his mother, who apparently runs his office, were very friendly and responsive to our calls. James came out fairly quickly to inspect the chimney and we were told that the entire job would cost $500. We set an appointment and again, James was on time.
James and 2 other guys were on the roof for 1 1/2 hrs. When they said the job was completed my husband handed them a check for $500 (he was unable to get up on the roof to inspect the job at the time). Later that day, I was able to get up on the roof and immediately noticed the poor quality in craftsmanship. I was also concerned about the integrity and
functionality of the waterproofing. Not only was the job sloppy and poorly done, but I saw gaps in the caulking and the flashing were it appeared water could enter. I then took pictures and immediately called the bank to put a stop payment on the check because of our concern that they would not return to our home to personally go over the job with me to discuss the work done.
The next day, we had another contractor come to repair the chimney. Without absolutely any input from us (nor did we ask this
contractor to correct any deficiencies in the flashing), they noticed the sloppy counterflashing and resurfaced the chimney beyond it. The chimney, only after it was beautifully resurfaced, not only appeared much more neat by hiding some of the sloppy caulking left from DeMartino's but may have given us more waterproofing we may not have had with just the flashing and caulking. If it wasn't for the other contractor's excellent workmanship, our chimney would have looked like crap.
Again, James was very responsive and came to the house the day after the chimney was repaired.  He and another guy went up on the roof with me to go over the work done. I asked him whether we would have received the same quality job if our home was a 2 million dollar house and he assured me that we would have. He also said that the entire chimney  was properly flashed and did not offer to redo anything. We wrote him a new check for $500.

And to put salt to the wound, I received a bill for $15 for the stop payment fee they incurred from my bank (we also paid a 
$15 fee for the stop payment) so all together their sloppy job cost us $530 instead of $500. I appreciated their friendliness, responsiveness, and punctuality but I would have greatly preferred a contractor who was graded less in these areas but did quality work. I will not be recommending DeMartino to anyone.
