SERVPRO of Nutley / Bloomfield

I experienced a flood in my condo that came from a unit above me. Water infiltrated every single wall of my apartment. I thought it was weird when ServPro’s solution was simply to place a bunch of fans around my home, without cutting open any walls or inspecting for mold. They told me absolutely nothing would need to be replaced, and I found that peculiar. I had two separate mitigation companies come in to give me a second opinion, and BOTH specialists were absolutely appalled when they saw the job that ServPro did. Both specialists independently told me that not only was ServPro’s solution not solving the problem or preventing mold growth, but actually making the situation worse and more hazardous by potentially blowing mold spores directly with high powered fans, therefore spreading those spores into the air and onto more surfaces in my home. On top of that, they were simply racking up a huge equipment rental bill for the fans, and basically doing nothing else. Both specialists also agreed that all of the walls, cabinets, and floors in my home would need to be replaced. So I fired ServPro, hired the other company, and saw a ton of black mold with my own eyes when they began taking the place apart (which was weeks later, so the mold had time to set in). Anyway, I disputed my bill with ServPro on those grounds, but they became defensive and told me I was wrong. They stuck me with a $2K bill even though they did NOTHING to solve my problem, then sent it to collections when I didn’t pay. Not a single person who came into my unit seemed to actually know anything about mold growth, and no one seemed particularly interested in thinking critically to solve the problem. Pictures of fans pointed at closed walls and cabinets for proof. Anyone with common sense would know this isn’t the way to mitigate flood/mold damage. Do not use ServPro EVER. Use Tomahawk Professional Services or Belfor instead. Both were excellent. ServPro, I’d appreciate my $2K back. Your men spent no more than 10 minutes per day in my unit, wasted time that I could have spent getting this fixed faster, and only made the problem more severe. My unit needed a $50K renovation, my walls were VISIBLY warped from the water damage, and there was an ABUNDANCE of black mold that your men never found.
