I hired Garry N Moore, owner of General Contractor Co. to replace my old front porch with a new concrete porch. First Garry who took 50% advance and did not turn up on the promised date. After a delay of approximately a week he started the work and the work he did a very lousy job and is much below par. Some problems are:
The floor has not been properly leveled, the step is not uniform, and the surrounding areas (walls, doors, sidings, floors, etc) have been left with concrete spot and marks and some pillars are also damaged. The working areas has not been cleaned. The final product is much worse than the old replaced floor. The new floors have been left with stain marks of blue color. Also the pillars supporting the roof which were earlier standing on the concrete floor were now place on wooden slabs popping out above the new concrete floor. Looks like Gary did not pour the right level of concrete.
In a summary the new concrete porch is looking much worse than the old one. I have already approached other contractors and am in the process of obtaining new quote for either repairing it or demolishing and replacing it new.
One cannot imagine my frustration with his work. When I called Garry to express my dissatisfaction he became very aggressive and stated he does not care about the reviews and complaints (using the word s***).
I would recommend taking every precaution and enough reference before hiring Garry or General Contractors Co. for any concrete related project.
"1. Step needed parging after pulling forms. 2. area was formed to elevation before pouring new concrete 3. you could see this after demo of old concrete. (border lines) 4. post were rotted below concrete from old concrete 5. put in new ones at no additional charge. 6. spots of blue where (brillo pads) from cleaning splatter from new pour. 7. never got chance to fix issues."
Garry Moore, the proprietor of General Contractors Co., came to our house on a weekend to give us an estimate. He was extremely friendly, very fast-talking and gave somewhat of a hard sell. His price was nearly impossible to beat so we went with him. He started the job earlier than expected. When I came home after a few hours into the job, the stone pad for the trash cans was not the way we had discussed. Garry quickly came over and rectified the situation. Anytime during the two day job that I had a concern or a change I wanted to make, Garry was more than happy to oblige. And he had some good ideas as well that we appreciated. The step off of the garage door looks great, and they did a nice job with using the leftover pavers and blue slate we already had. He left us with instructions to buy some stone dust and keep sweeping it in for a couple of days. I suppose this is great for the do-it-yourselfer who is looking to save a few bucks. I think I personally would have rather paid a little extra and had Garry finish the job he started. I got the stone dust but haven't swept it in yet. Some pavers are loose and I am hoping the stone dust will secure them, but overall the quality of the job is not great. Concrete was poured around some edges, but not all. I think this was a way to cut corners. The parging job looks great in some places, and uneven in others. I have already found cracks and places where it is crumbling near the mulch. Garry was careful about working around the many plants I have along the house, but he got wet concrete everywhere! He told me not to worry that the first rain would wash it off, but that didn't happen. I have concrete drips on many of my plants, a big mess along the railings of our back steps. Garry told me that parging is a mesy job and that he didn't want to cover my plants in this heat. It is difficult to know if another company could have been more neat. The bottom line is, you get what you pay for.
