LUDLOW HEATING & COOLING

I am sad to write this review because I have used them for many years, and I used to think them to be fair in their pricing. I actually like many things about Ludlow but their fees are getting out of control. The guys are likable and knowledgeable but this is the second time I feel taken advantage of and I will not be hiring them again. They supposedly had to replace the gas valve…not sure it is 100% the problem and I understand that. Had to come out 3 times for this as well. The total was ~$850. They charged $319.00 for the valve. The woman refused to give me the part number ahead of time. When I looked it up, I could get it for $67 on Amazon and other places. They probably pair $35-$45 for this part. That is a 416% markup. I understand making a profit and maybe charging 100-125 for it but not this. The marked it up over 400% and gave me a 15% discount….very disappointed

They looked at it and said that a part had to be replaced. They installed the part. I was happy with the work. The guy was very knowledeable, came right over and was quick and effiicient.

The service was good but the price was a little high for a new furnace.

I have used this company for 16 years.  
I have a Preventative Maintenance Agreement.
The company charged me for two hours of work to change two air filters and then said that the visit was not covered by the maintenance agreement as they had changed the filters recently.  
I did have construction done recently which caused more dust than usual but followup maintenance visits are supposed to be covered at $55 per hour - no $120 per hour.
And parts were supposed to be discounted by 15% which they would not do.
DO NOT USE.

They were a personal reference from a neighbour of mine who’s an electrician and it was in the middle of heatwave. I couldn’t get anyone else to come out. The guy came out personally and did a favour to my neighbour and I just got lucky. What they did for me was pretty awesome that they squeeze me in when no one else could come out for two weeks. They were great.

They are reliable and showed up on time. They even called to confirm the appointment. It was in the middle of a heatwave and they were great!

11Ludlow was recommended to us so we knew they did good work but were advised they were a little pricey. We like to support family run businesses and thought their quote was fair enough since we wanted someone trustworthy and who did quality work. They came last early winter to install the new furnace and then came back in the spring to complete the AC installation. The forced air furnace (natural gas furnace Lennox Elite ~$4600) they put in is energy efficient and made a big difference in the air quality in the house and the AC (Lennox Elite ~$6400) is working fine too. They were very responsive when the AC stopped working in the summer.

They inspected my heating and A/C this spring. About two years ago they installed a new thermostat for me.  The thermostat was causing a problem in the furnace. My furnace was covered by warranty and they repaired that as well.

Called Ludlow the week prior based on their reviews on Angie's List. They quoted a price, were able to fit me in their schedule for this week.  They were timely, and checked out both my air conditioner and my humidifier which had been leaking.  They installed one of my filters that I had purchased.  Workman was very courteous,  answered all my questions and was very thorough.

Ludlow is the only company I will use for heating or air conditioning service.

Fair price.  Professional installation.  System works well.  I could not get the state offered rebate they had originally quoted so they gave me an extended warranty.  I would recommend them.

My experience with Ludlow was well beyond my expectations.  Those expectations were set over a thirty-five year period of home ownership and maintenance.  Having owned three homes in two states I have had dozens of mechanics work at my home to repair and/or replace just about anything that moves or shouldn't move.  Ludlow was friendly and  accomodating from the first call through completion of the project.  They addressed an ongoing problem that had been fixed with bandaids for years - unbeknowst to me.  Ludlow's guys diagnosed the problem (not an easy chore), gave me a fair estimate, and did the work when promised.  What more can I say...they are one of the best at what they do.

They have been around since 1953 very little turnover.  Their pricing is very good.

I feel compelled to write a review on behalf of Ludlow HVAC. Several years ago, we hired them to replace the furnace and central air in our home. We got 3-4 estimates and Ludlow's was the most competitive. Bob Wood was courteous and professional and listened carefully to our needs. The work was done on schedule and the units in the main home have performed very well. By contrast, we had a very difficult time with the LG package terminal that was installed in our attic. To make a long story short, the first unit was extremely noisy and did not work properly. The second unit (also an LG) was no less noisy and the motor died after about a year. LG replaced the motor, but it was still quite noisy, so Ludlow took it upon themselves to replace the unit with an Amana. The Amana has been a big improvement, both in terms of sound and performance. Throughout this extensive process, Dominic was incredibly patient, professional and responsive. He stuck with the process until it was resolved, which took a long time (through no fault of Ludlow's). The moral of the story: Ludlow is a good company and deserves your business. If you purchase LG HVAC units, buyer beware!

Carrier Air Conditioner was five years without service.  I checked Angie's List and found listing for Ludlow Heating and Cooling in Bernardsville, NJ.  The reviews were favorable.  I called Ludlow for an appointment for service.  Have I discovered a gem!!!!  I was given an appointment for a service call the next way and the serviceman was here the next day within the time frame given.  The work done was thorough, efficient, professional.  The technician even put on shoe coverings when coming into my home from the garden - a first in 50 years in my home.
I will definitely use Ludlow again.  My only regret is that I did not use this service provider prior to this date!

How do I love Ludlow Heating & Cooling?  Let me count the ways.
Thinking I wanted to replace my existing HVAC equipment with Carrier brand equipment, I asked for quotes from several Carrier dealers.  I had used Ludlow to service the existing equipment in this home, which we bought two years ago, and because I was so impressed with their service, I decided to get a quote from them also, even though they are not a Carrier dealer.  Theirs was not the cheapest quote, but Bob Ludlow was the only one who explained how the venting of the high-efficiency furnaces would look and the aesthetics of the other proposals - basically, I would have four large goose-necked pipes pumping steam out the front of my house.  Bob did the calculations to see if was possible to run the venting out to the back of the house, and it was, although not an easy task.  I was grateful for Bob's wisdom and counsel - he is as honest as the day is long.  We love the Lennox equipment we now have installed and could not be happier with the work that Ludlow did.

Responded to call promptly.  Technician came on time, and was professional and courteous.   He completed the work the same day, and he appears to have fixed the problem.  The charge was reasonable.  All in all, we're very satisfied.

They typically come out in October and April. I have used them basically all the time I have lived here. If there are any problems, they come out and take care of them. I have been very happy with them. Their annual contract is in the range of about $275.00. They really provide customer service. They have a human being who answers the phone. It is a small enough company that I basically know everybody and I know all the people that come to the house. I have seen the same few people over the years. Their service is a lot more personal because of the fact that they have stable staff. They don't have a lot of turnover. I get relationship people. They know me and I know them. They are honest and they are reliable. They are fair. They are not one of the companies that try to sell me something that I don't need.

He found that all we needed was freon. I only graded them a "B" Good on responsiveness since we called them at the beginning of the holiday weekend and they put us on their "emergency list" and came 3 days later...in a way, that's understandable.

Very prompt and professional. Correctly identified problem and took steps to ensure that I did not pay for parts not needed.

Of the 6 contractors we evaluated, this was the only contractor who felt they could install a humidifier in our house connected to the gas heating (furnace) system. No one else felt they could do it. This is what sold us on them as the humidifier was important to us. Plus, other people had rated them well on the list. The fellow who did the initial evaluation for the job, Bob Wood, really knew his stuff. His brother, Dave Wood, appears to be involved with more day to day operations running the company. They were clever - they sent their best person out (so you figure everyone else in the company is as experienced). Bob has a great personality and was a pleasure to deal with. The work was done by two of their employees, Bob (not Bob Wood) and Paul. They did the work well. Note that this turned out to be a multi day job (1 day for the furnace; 1/2 day for the humidifier) which wasn't exactly clear to us when we signed the contract. I asked them for a quick lesson on how to use the programmable humidifier, and Bob showed me how to use that. I asked some other questions on maintenance. The answers I got were briefer and less detailed than from Bob Wood who's their #1 guy. I sometimes felt that Bob and Paul wanted to get the job done without fielding any questions. Just my gut feeling. Paul seemed like he could have a bit of a temper as well if I pushed with a lot of questions. Again, just gut feelings. The quality of work was excellent, and we got what we wanted, and no other contractor felt they could do the complete job. The bill was sent in the mail a few days later. You can pay by credit card. All in all, we're very happy with what they did, and would use them again. Replacement furnace filters are available through them as are the humidifier filters.

They are very professional and know what they are doing. I have been happy with them over the years. They've been great! They are a little pricey, but other than that I have no complaints! Overall I've been happy.

We have had this service for 4 years since we purchased a new furnace and air conditioner from them. They are prompt, courteous and have the required expertise to handle any issues. They take time to answer questions completely and to follow up on any concerns I might have. If we need other than routine service, they are here promptly and with a smile. I would gladly recommend their products and services.
