About us
JH Strain Carpentry, LLC, was the first major contract to remodel the Petty Officers' Club at the Philadelphia Naval Yard for the Navy's Bi-Centennial. From then to now, we've been involved with historic restoration, new and not so new homes, and major renovation. Currently 40% of our work is done for developers, while the rest of our time is spent with private home owners, and custom builders. Our company is a husband and wife team with years of experience in hundreds of homes. We enjoy working with people to develop the design best suited to their lifestyles. We're very capable of coming up with modern, classic, and traditional styles, as well as craftsman and colonial. Our goal is to provide a solid, well crafted job that we can take pride in and that our clients will be proud to have!

"When we went out to look at the project at Mr. Spitzer's home, we did discuss the preferred hdw. Mr. Spitzer and his mother would like, and they had no preference on the hdw. They were leaving that up to us. We had hoped to use Antique Brass lever sets but they were unavailable with our vendor. We used Bright Brass privacy locks our vendors had in stock. We explained this to Mr. Spitzer and said if he or his mother were not satisfied with them, we would replace two sets with closet locks and replace the hinges to match. We were employed by Mr. Spitzer and his mother to install 3 door units, colonial casing for those, below windowsills and 1/2 wall caps. Also, to install 3 1/4" baseboards - all throughout the 1st floor. The project took 2 days, as we had promised. When we arrived on the 2nd morning, Dennis's mother told us that Dennis was highly impressed with the work. Dennis paid in full with a check. Later we received and email from Mr. Spitzer that he found countless flaws and sent several pictures. We contacted him right away and said we would come back out the next day to view his concerns and replace anything that was unsatisfactory. He refused. We have been in business for over 40 years and have hundreds of satisfied customers. We always stand behind our work. It is hard to understand this person's position. Our proposed work included labor and all materials necessary. This was accepted by Mr. Spitzer and his mother before we installed. What we paid for with materials was not a question at that time, why he is asking for this now after the job was completed, excepted and paid in full."
