Mike came and assessed the roof by going up there, and found that below the shingles we had old cedar shakes instead of plywood, something the other roofers we had come out for an estimate did not see because they did not bother to inspect up close. It is a bit more expensive because you have to remove the shakes and put new plywood, but it also explained why in several locations we have had small leaks from the roof over the years. Other estimates were sure to have to be adjusted after the fact because of this.
We were thinking of putting a rather rarely used color shingle on the roof but were not sure how it would look on a big surface. Mike supplied us with a couple of  of addresses of houses in the area where he has put this color shingle on so we could make an informed decision; the color turned out great- very pleased.
Work was planned with an eye to the weather and was finished in four days. Debris was cleared as soon as it hit the ground, so except for a couple of sheets of old precious copper nothing was left laying around. 
Superstorm Sandy hit us big time a few weeks later and although our neighborhood was ravaged by about 150 felled hundred year-old trees, not a shingle came down from our new roofs.
If the roof keeps up this way, we are very pleased indeed with it. Mike is personable, quick to answer calls or email,  and his crew did a fine job. Highly recommended!

Immediately after I contacted the company and requested a reroofing estimate, Mike DeRosa came to my house, examined my roof and e-mailed me a proposal which I deemed to be very reasonable.  At my request Mike provided me with the names and phone numbers of five residents in my area for whom he had done reroofing (one of whom it turned out I knew).  All expressed complete satisfaction

.After I accepted Mike's proposal, we agreed on a date and a time (between 8:15 and 8:30 A.M.  The new shingles were delivered at 8:10 A.M., Mike arrived promptly and his team was at work at 8:45 A.M.  The entire job, including a thorough clean-up, was performed with the utmost efficiency, and was completed by 3:00 P.M!  Peter, who was on hand throughout to oversee the project, was both informative and courteous.  I would rate the entire experience as outstanding.

Everyone arrived on time at 8:30 and completed the entire job at around 3:30pm.
The crew installed everything properly with Ice Guard, Underlayment and Flashing, as well as replacing any damaged and rotted areas of the roof sheathing. 
They were also very accommodating with installing our kitchen range vent too!
The clean up included removing all the debris in the yard, raking and blowing the driveway. The crew also cleaned our gutters as well.
Overall, they did a great job on our roof. Would highly recommend to others!

Asked for a quote to replace shingles that were ripped off during Sandy - received a quote in the thousands that included work that I didn't ask for and am pretty sure I don't need based on convo with contractor who we ultimately hired (who did the requested work for less than $400).

This review is more than a year overdue.  Unfortunate delay in posting review -- my roof had to
be fully replaced very suddenly, and new gutters installed, while I was
out of town, and many subsequent months were wiped out for me with unconnected
distractions.  The good part, however, is that because I am
writing with at some distance from the installation, I can report
happily that my roof and gutters (installed in mid-August, 2011) have
withstood several major storms, the Oct '11 blizzard that brought
sizable tree branches down on the roof, and now two (!) hurricanes.  It
was reflecting on the last hurricane/superstorm (Sandy), and the sturdiness of the roof,
that brought me back to Angie's list to post this review when power
returned.
Mr. De Rosa was extraordinarily responsive throughout
the installation, which was done on short notice and while I was out of
state.  In comparison with my neighbor's roof, installed recently by
another contractor, I see that Mr. De Rosa's roofers also did a
remarkably clean and tidy job -- I had very, very little debris to cope
with in the wake of the installation of my roof.  IN CONTRAST, after my
neighbor's roof was replaced, I picked up nails, bits of old shingle,
backing paper, etc., for days on my property, from that other company's
job. 
 I remain grateful for Mr. DeRosa's  professional excellence.

After contacting American Roofing, someone came out to look at our house, shortly afterwards the owner Michael DeRosa came by to present and go over the estimate with us and left a sample book containing the various roofing colors available.  At that time I was not in a hurry to have the roofing work done, as there was a large landscaping project I was also interested in having done. Between the two projects I had a monetary budget to work within.  After getting all the estimates I decided that it made sense to have the roof work done prior to the landscaping project so that the new landscaping plantings would not be interfered with.  My wife and I were unsure as to which color would work best with our house. Michael was absolutely great, he gave addresses of several homes in our area that he had replaced roofs on with various colors and even dropped off larger samples of colors to help us decide.  He agreed that the color we chose was a good choice for our house.
Michael was able to schedule us quickly and the work commenced on time as promised.  During the installation Michael pointed out a problem with the way the vinyl siding had been installed.  The siding was installed so it butted up against the bottom of the gutters allowing water to go between the gutters and behind the siding which was causing streaking on the widow frames and could potentially cause the wood behind to rot.  He recommended adding facia boards wrapped with aluminum to build out the surface so it was flush with the vinyl siding.  Given the price of wood these days the increase in price was probably barely enough to cover the materials alone.  This also stopped the streaking problem we had before.  At the end of the first day I told Michael that the new roof looks very good but now the poor paint on the chimney is very noticeable and that I wanted to paint it.  He told me to buy the paint and his crew would paint it for me, which they did.  Overall Mr. DeRosa was extremely easy to work with and his crew did a great job, and the new roof looks fantastic.  I would highly recommend American Roofing to anyone.   

We just had our roof, siding and gutters replaced by American Roofing, and we are very pleased with the work and the final results.
We had our last roof done about 25 years ago, and it was not a good experience, or final product. So we were a bit fearful of what to expect this time around.
Mike was prompt and very courteous, the estimate was reasonable, and we had a sense of confidence that this time, it would be done right.
His crew was prompt, early, and started work right away. I must say they worked long and hard, as it was pretty darn hot at the time.
As an aside, we also needed our front steps and chimney repaired, and Mike recommended someone he knew, and we coordinated to get all of it done, and they also did excellent and quick work of it, and were also very courteous.
We also had gutters and leaders replaced, and had a gutter cap installed, to keep debris out of the gutters.
We always had a problem during heavy rains with water overflowing the gutter by our front porch and at the back. The installer made some recommendations, which we went with, and during the last two torrential rainstorms, for the first time we did NOT have a torrent of water overflow anywhere. The new 6" gutters handled the worst of it without a problem.
We also needed one window replaced, and Mike's team also took care of that. It looks great and was installed very well, indeed.
It all looks great now, like a new home.
I would heartily recommend Mike, his crew, and his group of fellow contractors to anyone. Mike also worked with us to get a GAF sponsored rebate on the roofing materials.

Great from start to finish.  Mike was one of the quickest to respond to our bid requests, and was patient and thorough with our (many) questions.  His quote came in among the most reasonable (we received a range of $8,500 to over $14,000!)  Crew was punctual and fast --- they finished in a one day, earlier than expected.  The foreman Peter was helpful and courteous.  After the several major downpours/t-storms this summer, we haven't noticed any leaks.  Plus, the new shingle color has improved our house's appearance.  Overall, very happy with the end result.

I was very pleased with the work. Mike the owner was great and reassuring. The price was reasonable. I was just very pleased with the work. I would highly recommend him they were fast, the job was well done very professional and efficient. He is just a really nice guy.

I would not recommend this company to anyone and I would be interested in knowing how they decide which patrons they fee deserve the curtesy of a return phone call.  Stay away from American Roofinf LLC.

Michael DeRosa came to our house and gave us an estimate. He was the only one of three contractors who gave us a price to install a copper dome over our foyer and was confident enough to handle the task. The crew arrived at 8 AM and got right to work. They ripped off and replaced the entire house in one day including replacing 12 sheets of rotted plywood. Michael also had a foreman on site making sure the perimeter was clean and safe as well as answering my questions and the neighbors. Michael also stopped by about four times (that I saw) that day.The following day they arrived to rip off and finish the detached garage roof. Another two days were spent on the bead board soffit as well as aluminum wrapping. His guys spent a day removing tar from our chimney and flashing it with copper and another two days installing the copper dome roof,  which is truly a work of art. He had them do extra copper work in the same area, where we was sure they were going to replace with shingles. It was a nice surprise. We had rotted wood siding replaced on rear dormer. We had agreed to paint the clapboard before installation, but Michael went one step further.  He had a painting contractor come and paint it for us after installation. The painter had to paint with two colors and had some cutting in. The painter was very courteous as well as professional. After seeing the roof installed we asked if it was too late to change to gutter color. He said "Absolutely Not" and was not at all put out. The gutter crew installed 6" gutters in one day and put a cap system on the gutters that only allows water to enter the gutter forcing leaves and sticks overboard. After the job was complete I was reluctant to ask him to do extra aluminum flashing where I was planning to paint, as his crew were wrapping up,  Again he was not at all perturbed and had it done the next day adding a very fair amount of money.Since completion the roof and gutters have been put to the test with some serious thunder storms. While my neighbors roof was gushing water on all angles, ours handled the water effortlessly. Michael followed up a week later to see if all was ok.We highly recommend this contractor. He really went out of his way to make sure we were 100% satisfied. Who could ask for anything more?

We contacted American roofing for an estimate in March after reading positive reviews on Angie's List. We had 4 other companies submit estimates as well. Mike came to our home and said he would e-mail me the estimate in 1-2 days. He was the ONLY one who said we needed our skylights replaced in order to do our roofing job the right way. Additionally, Mike recommended 6 feet of ice shield all around our roof as we have a steep pitch and he felt that would be a better approach than the standard 3 feet. We decided to go with American Roofing based on the reviews, references, our gut feel and the work he proposed doing. We chose a siding color (which Mike ordered) only to contact him a few days later that we had decided to change our door (mahogany color) and that the color siding we chose did not go with the new door. I asked Mike if it was possible to modify the order. He said, "Absolutely. No problem. Hey, you have to live with this and you are spending alot of money here. I want you to be happy."He agreed that the original color we selected was not the best match for the new door and was more concerned with it looking right than he was in having to go through the trouble of changing the order. We selected 6/18/12 as the start date. By this time,we decided to change out 11 windows, rear garage door, rear sliding door in addition to our front door as well as build a portico. Mike patiently dealt with us regarding tthe extra work and never made us feel indecisive or that we could not have exactly what we wanted. On 6/18/12, the crew arrived at 730 am ready to go. They worked tirelessly for 12 hours and had the roof nearly done in 1 day as well as ripping up most of the old cedar shakes. In addition, they cleaned up as if they had not been there (the only sign of debris was in the dumpster). Mike stopped by at least 4-5 times to make sure all was going well and that we were happy so far with the job. On day 2, they came and worked another 12 plus hours and again, Mike was here a few times to make sure all was well. Day 3 saw near 100 degree weather but the crew was here installing windows/doors/siding etc... again for 12 hours and again making sure all debris was broom swept before they left. The crew wanted to work on day 4 but Mike politely asked us if we would mind them taking off as it was going to be over 100 degrees. If we had said we minded, they would have been there. We of course were so pleased with the job they were doing and how quickly they were doing it that we had no problem with that request. They came back on Friday (still very hot) and put in another 12 hours and were here on Saturday as well. The house was completed on Monday but the portico had to be finished off. His carpenter came to finish it off along with the fine details of the home and it came out spectacular!!!  We have gone from having a very drab looking home to being the envy of the neighborhood. I am so happy with the results. I cannot believe it is the same house!!!  I cannot say enough good things about Mike and his crew. The workmanship, professionalism, attention to detail and honesty of this man and his crew is superior. 100 % plus satisfied and would recommend this company to everyone I know.

Overall, the experience with American Roofing was great. From the time the estimate was generated to the actual work to the finishing and clean up, everything was done swiftly and professionally.
They also were working under very challenging conditions - the weather was on-again-off-again rain that week. We had to reschedule a couple of times to make sure that they could do the job per their quality guarantee. But we were communicating well the whole time. That is SO important with projects like this. Both sides knew that our time, and theirs, was valuable.
The first day. they came with a crew of 8 to try to maximize the time (and weather). They got the main roof done swiftly. Cleaned up afterwards, and prepped the lower roof over our sunroom. The next day was rainy so they had to push off another day. But soon as the weather seemed cooperative, they came out on the 3rd day and managed to finish the job before the rain came again. 
We were nervous about the speed of the job and wondered if anything was missed. But several rainy days later, the roof is beautiful and the house is dry. The new roof and gutters also refreshed the look of our house - it looks great from the outside. (As an aside, I highly recommend the roof color Patriot Red!)
The only snag was that they broke a light fixture by our patio door. BUT got a nicer replacement one and installed it the following week. 
The work crew was polite, efficient, and clearly well-trained. Peter, the work supervisor, and Mike, the owner are both great guys. They were on-site for most of the time, and would consult us when needed as the work progressed. So easy to talk to and work with! Five stars!

Mike, the owner, was extremely responsive.  I left a voice message, and received a response quickly.  He came by the house to see what needed to be done, I didn't even need to be home, and received a proposal within a few days.  His crew showed up earlier than promised, worked professionally, did a terrific job of replacing gutters and leaders, removed all old debris, and even lead blew the areas to clear the residual mulch from the beds.   I would highly recommend this company to anyone. 

Mike was extremely prompt and responsive throughout the whole quoting and proposal process, and did an excellent job keeping us informed of when he would be getting back to us also.   The roofing job itself went flawlessly.  No issues, everything was on time, and everything was done with great attention to quality.  I would highly recommend Mike and the entire American Roofing team.  They are what you want an expect from a roofing company.

American Roofing installed a new roof and gutters on our home. They did a great job for a great price. Mike the owner was easy to work with. His estimate was right on target with the final cost. The president of the company, Mike DeRosa, was contacted by my wife regarding a bid for the job at my Mom's home in April 2011.  When the bid was accepted in May, Mike kept us informed throughout the process.  This was important, since we live a far distant from my Mom.  The worked was done the week of September 15, 2011, taking special care not to disturb my ailing Mom.  Mike made sure that site foreman, Peter, met my Mom and me prior to starting the work.  Peter followed up to ensure that the attic was thoroughly cleaned weeks after after the job was complete.  

Both Mike and Peter were thoughtful, very professional and a pleasure to work with!
