At another point we had a leak in our roof and water was coming into our house. In asking him why he did not fix this issue when it first occurred (he took 10 days to check the problem), he replied via text, "If you weren't there like you aren't supposed to we would have seen the problem and addressed it without you even knowing." I believe that if water is leaking in your almost finished home (drywall was up and painting was completed), a contractor should inform you of water damage.
In terms of my opinion of his sexist behavior, he told my stay at home wife that she should "find something to do with her time," and told me that I "needed to control my wife." Again, this is not someone that I would want to work with again.
I was also displeased with the finished product. Several of the recessed lights in my kitchen are not centered to the cabinets that they sit in front of, which to my eye looks terrible. In the plans for the remodeled kitchen there is a window that is supposed to sit centered to the sink and it is off by at least a half a foot. A return air grille does not completely cover the return vent, which in my opinion looks awful. But Tom Marino informed me that "it was the return that was necessary for installation." Tom Marino also built doors for the underside of my house but these doors are warped and do not sit flush to the space. Something I also believe does not look good. His company also sided my house and covered part of a door to the underside of the house. I needed to cut the door in order to open it without damaging the siding. I have attached some photos of these issues.
I could go on with other issues that I personally had with Tom Marino and Thomas Marino Builders. Simply put, if I were hiring someone to work on my house, it would not be Tom Marino.
Just a final update on some recent events. Our roof leaked for the third time and when I contact Thomas Marino the response I received was, "You may contact my lawyer for further discussions." In my opinion this means that Thomas Marino does not stand by the work completed and therefore I would state again, if I were hiring someone to work on my house, it would DEFINITELY NOT be Thomas Marino.
"Please contact my attorney to further discuss this issue. There are numerous counts against the homeowner. His name is (member name) and his phone number is: (member phone number). By the way, (member name) is not recorded as the owner of the home on the deed. (Please call Long Beach Township Tax Assessor @ 609-361-1000 to verify). Also, because of that (member name) was not a part of any contracted work with the home."
