ACE OUTDOOR POWER EQUIPMENT

I gave them a ?D? rating for what I consider poor customer service and not standing behind their work, this is what happened you can come to your own conclusion. When my father?s 1996 John Deere rider mower stopped running he had it serviced by Ace Outdoor Power equipment in Bayville, NJ. To diagnosis the problem they had to ?remove the engine from the mower and split the case? (according to their work order), they determined the problem was a broken Actuating Spring. My father was charged $444.82 for the repair, the spring cost $2.16 and the rest was for labor, pick-up charge, oil, etc. My father used the mover once and it worked fine, after that Hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey and a few weeks went by before he used the mover again. At that point the mower would not start, he called ACE and they told him that even though he barely used the mower, 30 days had elapsed so the work was no longer under warranty. They agreed to pick up the mower but said he would be charged if the repair was unrelated. This time they said that a rubber tip had fallen of the carburetor injector and that the carburetor needed to be replaced at a cost of over $300! I asked why they didn?t notice the poor condition of the carburetor during their initial diagnosis. They said that it wasn?t noticed which is hard to believe. I think the carburetor is one of the first things that you check when the engine does not run, at least before you ?remove the engine from the mover and split the case?! We decided that we would not spend any more money on the mower; I asked if they could at least as a courtesy return the mower at no charge otherwise we would just leave it there. Their answer was that we should stop in to sign the papers that stating we don't want the mower. I don?t think my 85 year old father will be buying another mower, but if he does, it won?t be from Ace Outdoor Power equipment in Bayville.
