We waited a long time to install a new bathroom. These guys were a big help in choosing the right materials on the market today. They brought us paint, floor samples, etc. Big help in puttingour new beautifull bathroom together.

If you are looking for headaches and frustration, we would not recommend using Ben and Jim. At first, they said all the right things, because they are excellent salesmen. Great price, able to get it done when asked, and we will keep you in the loop every step of the way. Little did we know a three-month project turned into over 8 months. We are confident it would have taken them longer, but we fired them and used another reliable contractor to finish the work (in a reasonable amount of time, very close to the contracted finish date. This is not something we experienced with Ben and Jim). There would be days where no one would come to the house, or they would work for 45 min and leave. There were instances where items were added to the list of repairs, which was not approved by us. We were only notified after the fact when they requested money. Also as we inquired about the delay of the home project, we always got excuses. All of them stressed medical concerns. As someone who also has medical issues, if I can not do my job, I find someone at my place of work to cover me until I am well. This was not the case with Ben and Jim. Their foremen Steve was overall pretty good, but also displayed the same Ben and Jim characteristics as the months went by. In all, if you do use Ben and Jim, make sure to have a date of completion on your contract, save every email, text message, voicemail. Confirm everything in writing. NJ law requires contracts for renovations to have a completion date - we did not know that, and Ben and Jim did not have a completion date on the paperwork we signed, meaning the contract was not valid. Do not make the same mistakes we made. Do not use Ben and Jim for any major work. They are not capable of delivering. Small projects may be fine, but when looking for large work to be done, disregard any salesman pitch they try to sell you on and find someone else. 10/10 would not recommend.

Bathroom remodel: no plan drawing, work not completed. The work which was completed was inferior, and had to be ripped out.
Response from Ben Modano, Jr., Home Remodeling
"We certainly gave our customer a drawing with definitive room size measurements. A full week after the framing and hardie backer was installed and completed, Mrs. S.[Consumer name withheld at their request] decided the bathroom was too small because it looked like it should have been closer to a doorway regardless of the fact it was built to the exact measurements given to and approved by Mrs. S[Consumer name withheld at their request]. We ripped everything out for her and rebuilt at our cost as a courtesy. She made numerous changes and was verbally abusive to our workers. Our plumber walked off the job due to verbal abuse fom Mrs. S[Consumer name withheld at their request]. She retained an attorney because of the ongoing problems created by her. After numerous emails with information and documents as well as phone conversations with her attorney, I was told by Mr. S[Consumer name withheld at their request] that their attorney refused to represent them any further in this matter. We had to send a certified letter to Mr. and Mrs. S[Consumer name withheld at their request] informing them to keep the balance of money due on the project and hire another contractor as we felt Mrs. S[Consumer name withheld at their request] was a Hostile customer."

DO NOT hire these people !!!!! They were hired for 2 simple projects! STILL NOT COMPLETE :-\. They should have been do get over 6 weeks ago ! OVER 2 months and STILL hearing excuses ! The price of the jobs were great , tell you what you want to hear , cash your check within minutes, then problem after problem ! Excuses and more excuses! They STILL have yet to complete anything simple! I ve been respectful because of their ages , but ... OVER IT ! DO NOT HIRE THEM!! Your job will NEVER get complete !!!

"Our apologies to the customer. We took on a painting project that we should not have. Our regular painter was ill and we tried to accommodate our customer with people we had never used before for our painting project which turned out to be a problem for us and our customer."

A five-week kitchen remodeling project has finally been completed at our home in Runnemede, NJ. We were fortunate enough to have been assigned Steve to tear out the old kitchen and put in a new and modern one. We are pleased with the work that was accomplished and the knowledge that he had about the work and the choices we made. Sadly, we had several instances where Mr. Modano did not tell us the truth. We would not recommend him.
Response from Ben Modano, Jr., Home Remodeling
"As you can see the customers were happy with the work. Unfortunately they mis-understood the timeline they were given for the project. Remodeling a kitchen is a major task that involves custom made cabinets, countertops, etc. The time factor can and is affected by the jobbers we need to use depending on the custom materials picked out by our customers. We just do not have any control over our jobbers timelines for getting these cutom made materials to us. Some are faster than others. To ad to the timeline, the customers added additional work to the project that was not factored in when they had first asked us for an approx. timeline for this projects completion."

I had Jim and Ben Modano build a addition to my house. I had consistent problems with every part of this job, where I had to identify the problem and call them to fix it this company do not have anyone that follow up with the workers they hire. They left trash from every part of this job to the end of the job and kept telling me they will remove all the trash and never did. I had to pay and remove all the trash myself they refuse to answer their phone to assist me with this trash. (2) Also they supposed to have changed the lock on the door to a key lock kept telling me they had it and they will take care of it find out they never brought the lock and refused to answer my phone calls about that. So I had to pay for the lock myself and put it on. (3) I paid them all the money except for $2,000 which we agree will be paid when everything is done. Well in this agreement I supposed to have the bathroom fully completed. When it was time to complete the bathroom they didn't have money to by the material to complete the bathroom so I took the $2,000 and purchase everything so it can be completed, now I don't owe them anything this is why they abandon the job and never finished it because I didn't owe them anything they actually abandon the job I had to finish painting, sanding the walls, and priming to get this job complete for inspection. (they are horrible. )

"All of our work was inspected and approved by the construction office. The customer told us he was running out of money due to adding additional work we were NOT contracted to due and that is when all the problems began. Numerous changes were made and the customer wanted a multitude of work done at no charge and mis-lead our electrician and plumber to do work for him that we were not contracted to do and wanted us to cover the cost."

Taking way too long. Poor mangement when getting materials required for job. A ten day job according to owner is twenty days and counting and still not near completion.
Response from Ben Modano, Jr., Home Remodeling
"Mr. Samuel M. [Consumer name withheld at their request] added quite a bit more work than he originally contracted for which we obliged him to complete. Mr. Samuel M. requested "Custom" oak mouldings, trim and flooring which were all special order items from our supplier. The lapse between the delivery time for these special orders and pulling our finish carpenter back and fort from other jobs during this period, contributed to a much longer completion time than expected for the original work contracted by our company."
