The water pipe entering the house in the basement looked corroded.  I had another plumber who I dealt with previously come by to give me an estimate.  He told me that the pipe would need to be replaced, possibly out to the street, etc.

After a few days, the first plumber did not call me back.  So I called Belly's, from a referral from two neighbors.  I explained the situation to Mike, the owner. He told me the worst case scenario but said he would like to see it first.  He came out the following business day.  He informed me that the corroded part of the pipe is actually a clamp that can be removed. The pipe and the valve, even though older, were both fine. He tightened a nut on the valve and said, "That should do it. Let me know if it leaks any further."  He refused to take any money from me.   He also clarified a few things that the previous plumber told me regarding the curb box (where the house water connects with the main), which will need to be replaced at some point. Mike also provided advice on thhings I can do to keep the replacement cost down, etc.

I was astonished with how quickly he took care of the problem and with his integrity.  I had to force a TIP on him.  I highly recommend.
