John was very professional and knows his craft well. After the initial consultation, (1st phone call and home visit), it took 2-3 phone calls, (voicemails) to get him back to do the job. However, it was well worth the wait.
John realized that the old wrought iron was attached to the wall without being properly anchored to a stud. Therefore, he had to cut open a fairly large hole in my wall, add a piece of wood, and adjoin it to the two studs on the left and right just to anchor it in well. This made for a new, strong, horizontal stud for the banister to be attached.
Then, he sealed the wall back up, and finished the job taking great care to detail! Now, as another reviewer stated, "Aesthetic Craft Wood Railings only does indoor wood railings. He doesn't do any other type of carpentry or fencing."
Which means, if there is any patch work that needs to be done afterwards, (painting, spackling, etc.) then you might want to have another handyman come by for that job after John has completed his task... and that is, to provide you with an excellent railing that you'll love for years to come!

I have a split-level home (in East Brunswick, NJ) built in the early 1960?s that was missing a railing going up the stairs, as well as overlooking the foyer. I initially called John about having a railing installed after finding his website on the internet. John picked up the phone on my first call. I proceeded to give John an overview of my project, and a general idea of what I wanted. John told me to email him photos of where I wanted the railing installed, as well as the measurements. John then emailed me back within a few hours with photos of several options, as well as a detailed price quote (which was more than fair). We then booked a date and time for the project to be completed, John estimated that the job would take 1-2 days to finish. I was thrilled to be able to coordinate all of this via internet, as my wife and I both work, and have limited free time. It is rare to find a contractor that is able to effectively communicate and provide quotes all online. On the day of installation, John arrived when he said he would, went over every detail of the project, and showed us all the materials he would be using. The job ended up taking just over 1 day to complete, when he came back the 2nd day it was only for about an hour to wrap-up a few small details. John is an honest, hard-working old-school craftsman that is also an owner/operator. Unlike many other contractors, John does not send different people to do the job, he completes the work himself. He was professional, neat, and courteous. All the materials he used were American made, and not the typical low-grade merchandise you would find at a home center. The railing itself that John installed is rock-solid, extremely well built, and looks great. On top of that, the job ended up costing me $50 less than what John had originally quoted me as it required less material than was originally thought. When we paid John, we accidentally gave him too much money, and he was honest enough to come back and give us back what he overpaid. My wife and I could not be happier, and would absolutely recommend John to anyone.
