J & S Painting

I had almost the exact same experience with Scott last year as the review Elaine B. had in May. I stayed quiet because he was not only recommended but also a family friend. After hearing he’s been badmouthing me — and seeing the review below — it’s time to speak up. We hired him in October 2024 to paint our kitchen cabinets. We didn’t get them back until after New Year’s 2025. The excuses were endless — vacation, illness, car trouble, “personal issues.” When they finally came back, they were chipped, hardware was missing (he denied taking it), and some cabinets were broken. He promised to return for touch-ups, told me to mark the spots with sticky notes, then never touched a thing. Instead, he accused us of cheating him out of money — which was a complete lie. If he’s going to run his mouth, so will I: I would never hire or recommend Scott Miller or J&S Painting. In my opinion, he has serious personal issues and possibly substance abuse problems. I wouldn’t trust him with a paintbrush, let alone my home.

We hired Scott Miller, J&S Painting to do a repaint of our kitchen cabinets. His contract gave a 14 day timeline. On day 1 he removed all doors and drawer fronts saying they would be sprayed at his home. He began painting the bases but had issues with not having the right equipment. The bases got two coats by hand but two areas are left unfinished. He went on vacation, was sick, had car issues, had appointments, had personal problems. There was always an excuse why we didn't have the doors yet. In the 2nd week he had texted "Doors look great I am doing another coat." In another phone call I asked if the doors were painted and he said yes. He stopped responding to texts and calls and after 5 weeks. We started threatening legal action if we didn't get the doors back. In the 7th week the UNPAINTED doors were returned to us after we said we were filing a police report that day if he didn't bring them back. When asked why they weren't painted he said "I guess I lied." He came to us recommended but I would never recommend anyone use him again.

Hard to get a hold of. First day showed up, looked around and had to go to Lowe's to get materials. worked about 4 hours that day. Then left. He came back the day after. Working by himself it took him about two weeks start to finish. He painted over cracks in the walls. Missed some spots, and more. I don't want to dump on him. I paid him at the end of the first week with a Bank check and the in cash when he said he was done. I should have had everything put in writing. I did not. My fault. Scott is a nice man but I would say he needs more communication skills, and attention to detail.

Interior- painted ceiling in the kitchen, bath and living room.  Did repair work on walls in the kitchen and painted my large kitchen and bath.
Exterior- power washed.  Replaced some cedar siding.  Painted entire 3300 sq. ft. home.  Sanded, primed and painted trim.  painted shutters and porch plus chimney.  Stained deck.  Everything came out beautifully.
Scott Miller and his crew were very easy to work with.  He was pleasant and punctual and kept me informed every step of the way.
