"Very accommodating and helpful with suggestions when it was noticed that the fan we purchased was defective..our installer came back in the afternoon to install the replacement fan. Check your purchases at Home Depot before you leave the store...our Hunter Fan was definitely returned by a previous customer and then put back on the shelf. The Company and installer handled the job very efficiently and professionally and we would highly recommend."

"I used Peak Power to install the electric for an above ground pool we had installed. Adam with Peak was incredibly helpful and responsive. My pool installers had many delays and ultimately finished the pool almost a month after the initial planned install. Adam/Peak were responsive to the ever shifting timeline and made it out within a few days of the completed pool install and almost a month after the plan. The scope of the project increased a little based after the final install and the Peak team was up front, honest and fair about the additional work and materials required. I would highly recommend Peak for all your electric needs."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Generators are usually sized by running watts and starting watts. Ideally, you’ll want a generator that can offer both the necessary running watts and starting watts for everything you need to power without going beyond 90% of its capacity. Calculate your home’s electrical load based on the breakers in your home or adding up the appliance and lighting needs of connected rooms.

In many cases, yes. There are models called dual-fuel generators and fuel switches, but only between certain types of fuel. For example, with the right setup you can convert a generator from natural gas to propane. Some allow switching between diesel and gasoline. There are even tri-fuel generators available in some cases, which adds a large layer of security if you are worried about fuel availability in times of crisis. Always check your generator capabilities and manual instructions before trying to switch fuels. Some generators can use another fuel but may need a fuel conversion kit to prep them first.

If you’re deciding between a solar battery versus a generator for the best backup power solution, you can take a few factors into consideration. Solar batteries are quiet while generators can be quite loud. Generators have a lower up-front cost, but they require fuel and ongoing maintenance while solar batteries are more expensive but don’t have many ongoing costs.

You can determine what size generator you need for a transfer switch by matching the switch to the largest outlet on your generator. Larger generators can power up to 10 circuits, while most 5,000-watt generators can provide power to six circuits. So, if your generator’s largest outlet is 30 amps, you’ll need a 30-amp transfer switch.

Costs range from $500 to $2,500, depending on generator type and installation complexity.
