"Guilty as Charged. Eight years ago I did install this chimney and it does leak. The circumstances at the time interfered with my judgement of this customer. I received a bad check for a deposit, and no payment on completion of the job. This was on top of additional undisclosed expectations of the customer of assembly of his new cook stove. I also tried to return previously purchased materials by the customer that he wanted me to install (I do not install bought materials as a company policy). The stove shop refused to do this because he bounced a check with them as well. The call concerning the leak came in after heavy rains and I returned multiple times trying to find causes. We even brought a hose up to the roof and soaked it -  still, no leaks but still no payment from the customer. This was very frustrating and I decided to cut my losses and write it off as a bad debt. The next interaction (8 years later) was at the home inspection of the same property with the new buyer. We were hired due to an excellent reference given to the realtor. The seller, my original customer, was verbally abusive at this appointment and rightfully so, since now I know it does leak.  I believed at the time he was trying to skip out on his bill and this was bad judgement on my part. The situation was very disturbing to everyone involved. The new owner did call contact me by email and we did exchange a back and forth round of questions about the leaking issue. I believed that it was coming down the flue with heavy rains and so was looking into a wind directional cap. This was the Fall of 2012, when my company is at its busiest. I then proceeded to drop the ball.  Unfortunately,  I was not aware of the F rated review until recently. My email had changed and I never got the notification. Not the excuse I am proud of but it's the truth.  I have contacted this customer to reinstall the chimney flashing free of charge. The installation was not done correctly. My company takes customer dissatisfaction very seriously and we hold ourselves to the highest level of professionalism in this industry. I have given this situation a great deal of thought and have reexamined this standard operating procedure to be sure that this type of issue doesn't occur again."
This extended the original 3 day job to a 5 day job, the contractor fit me into his schedule without hesitation.
The job required inside and outside work. They had to put up scaffolding outside, in very cold weather, and laid out protective covering on my living room floor and all the furniture just in case any debri got into the room.
I was given updates throughout the job process and was also able to view the inside of the chimney flue while they video taped the damage.
Throughout the process, they cleaned up after each day and put things back before leaving.
At the end of the job I received picture confirmation of the chimney liners in place.
The workers were respectful of me and my home. They were very professional and I would highly recommend them to anyone.
