Virtually everything went wrong. The kitchen cabinet and counters were installed so poorly that nothing is level and the doors don't close properly. The installer that they called a "general contractor" told me he was, in fact, an electrician who was also a "handyman." He was nice, but did a terrible job. Next, the floor company hired for the wood floors stood me up on the scheduled day. They found a different installer who came the next week. Unfortunately, he put down the floor with a staple gun, even though it needed to be glued. When finished, you could see little bumps from all the staples in every single piece of floor board. The floor needed to be torn out. The new installer (the one who'd originally stood me up) couldn't come for four weeks, even though I had removed my monitor heater to prepare for the installation and the other floor was torn up. When he finally came, he did an awful job! There were big gaps between the ends of the boards, boards with blemishes were installed, the threshold strips were crooked, the walls were damaged in many places from removing/replacing the baseboards, and the one step in the room was made from pine, even though the floors were oak. The floors had to be torn up again! Then, the carpet installation was done and looked great, but the pad laid under the carpet squeaked in a few dozen spots. It had to be replaced. The worst part of all was that no one was apologetic or sympathetic in the least. The store manager didn't return one of my phone calls, and I got no action on any of the many problems until I called the Lowes customer service complaint line. It was SIXTEEN months from start to finish.
