I self-diagnosed extremely slow drains to the outside sewer line and called a local sewer line rooter company who opened the cleanout and with a fiber camera discovered the pipe (outside the house, leading to the city system) was collapsed. This job was out of the scope of the local plumbing company, and their normal resources were booked for weeks, which led me to search for a good excavator/septic line installation outfit on my own. After many hours of calling around and a day of waiting for companies to call back with the bad news (there are a huge number of large excavation projects in the area now, and everyone's booked), I'm extremely glad a friend of mine referred me to MacKinnon and Sons, these guys are outstanding. They were also booked, but said they'd swing by to take a look after the job they were working on that day (Wednesday). Nick arrived early that evening and examined the layout of the lawn, trees, and stated they were booked the following day, but was thoughtful and opted to not provide an estimate until after work the following day, when he had done more research with help of the city planning dept, who were contacted and on Thursday arrived and provided all the data necessary to properly estimate the job. The crew arrived Thursday evening as promised and got all the details, estimates and my preferences worked out to begin the job on Friday, as they had finished their job early and Friday became free. The crew arrived at my property earlier than I expected, and began immediately at 8am. I need to state that their ability to operate a 17 ton backhoe is extremely impressive: expert skill level here. We have utility lines all over the place, he was able to deftly maneuver around trees, lines, etc. The crew communicates with what appears to be telepathy, they work incredibly efficiently together. A fairly large maple (which I was sad to see go) was downed and the stump removed and carried off by 8:11am. Our line was completely replaced and functional by 11:20am. They then began backfilling, were delayed a bit by city inspectors requiring some extras but handled it gracefully, sending one of their team to pick up the insulation while they worked on other portions of the project. They experienced a blown hydraulic hose on their machinery, but repaired it themselves on-site staying busy doing other scheduled maintenance on their equipment while the repair was under way. I asked them not to re-bury any large rocks which they happily complied and set the large rocks in a row around the new clear area. The line went through our driveway so they were forced to dig a swath up, but they cut and cleaned up the edge perfectly, ready for patching (which they also perform). The whole job was finished by about 4pm. I can't say enough good things about these guys. Even my wife approved. =) These guys are awesome, each member of the team has a strong role and uniquely dovetailed capabilities. Skill, precision, speed, professionalism, and calm confidence, with a price that easily beat other estimates, and didn't break my heart or bank account.
