We hired Mr. Wylie following receipt of a recommendation from a neighbor who is engaged in constructing an extension on his home. We are repairing structural members, removing rotten wood, expanding storage areas, and re-modeling the kitchen in our 100+ year old waterfront home. Mr. Wylie and his helper, James, originally began work at our house back in September 2010, when we discovered wood rot under our kitchen floor resulting from water intrusion under the sill and along a foundation beam. Mr. Wylie could not give us an initial estimate because we simply did not know how far the rot had spread under the kitchen floor and under the foundation. He followed the rot, excavated out approximately 8' along the beam, and replaced the sill, the door frame, and the rotted structures. He charged us only 1,600.00 for the extensive work, including the materials necessary to make the repairs and to replace exterior shingles that had to be removed and disposed of following diagnosing the rot. The cost was so reasonable in light of the work performed (without a pre-work estimate or cost guarantee) and the fact that Mr. Wylie gave us receipts for virtually every nail he had to purchase, that we were impressed. Once we saw how effectively the new door sill kept water from intruding and how every detail of the work (e.g. wood screws rather than nails, waterproofing and finishing) was completed so painstakingly, we retained Mr. Wylie for additional work at the house, which has been ongoing and was performed as recently as March 10th. Between September 2010 and the present, Mr. Wylie has constructed a new basement door for the house, has expanded a loft storage area for us (including a new ceiling and drywall), and has been repairing support pillars that have been showing signs of rot in the basement, including pouring new supporting structures and pads. He will shortly begin working with us to re-model our kitchen, which will include interior wall demolition, new ceilings, and the installation of and some custom designs for new cabinetry. We feel we have been very fortunate to find Mr. Wylie and his helper and hope to keep them busy throughout the next several months with our repair and re-modeling work. At every step, we were advised of our options, all of our questions were explained, the work was performed on time and in a painstaking manner I have not seen for years.
