- - I hired Homescapes to replace fascia and soffit and they proceeded to cause significant damage to my existing siding.
- - When installing the new fascia boards, they also left the tails uncut, so that the fascia was extending 6-8 inches beyond each corner of the house.
- - When I expressed concern about the workmanship, their initial response was, "...we'll fix that when we do the siding.." We were not under contract to do the siding. We were only under contract for soffit and fascia.
- - They eventually came back and "fixed" the damage they caused by installing aluminum trim over the exposed areas of the siding they they damaged, cut back the tails of the fascia and installed foam in the gaps they left between the new fascia board and roofline.
- - In March of 2015, the newly installed fascia board on one side of the house became detached from the rafters, leaving one side of my house completely exposed to the elements. Lynette sent out the team who did the original installation to "inspect" the situation. They first told me it was an issue caused by the new gutters I had installed. They then said it was caused by the harsh winter. Suffice to say, I had to pay Homescapes another $300 to replace the fascia. After everything I went through with this company, I would have expected them to honor the contract and fix the damage they caused at no cost to me.
I would never hire Homescapes of New England again and would recommend that anyone considering working with them to stay away from this company.
Carl came by repeatedly to check the work. He also responded to my questions quickly.
The carport wall was found to be out of true and they were able to push it back into true. They dealt with the electrical weather head and drop, as well as the Verizon FIOS drop and the related wall penetrations
They were here the week of, and then just after, Thanksgiving. They were flexible when we asked them to not do any work over the holiday weekend.
The crews were respectful and conscientious.
They were here during some very cold days and work did not seem to suffer.
"[member name removed] it was a pleasure working with you both on your house and it looks great. Thank you for the kind words I will share them with the team. Thanks, Lynette"
Her part of the job went so smoothly that it made dealing with the other contractor a breeze.
We expanded the scope of the project very near the end because it just made sense to do so, and, as she was right on budget, we could put the money we had set aside for any change orders to great use!
The experience we had with Homescapes was the best contractor experience we've ever had. (And as new home owners, we've been dealing with a lot of contractors lately.)
While other contractors gave us a two page document for their proposal, we had an entire folder from Lynette (the owner) which described not only the materials and what would be done, but detailed descriptions and pictures of every aspect of the job. She personally reviewed this document with us and was happy to answer any questions. This was a huge difference, especially given that all the contractors on this really expensive job were only a few hundred dollars different!
The team that come out to work on the house every day was the same group of men. Not all of them were fluent in English, but all spoke some and live in New Hampshire year-round with their families. They were here early and worked late to get the job done. When rain started, they had materials and tools covered in minutes. You could tell they have been working together as a team for a while. They were professional in their appearance and actions at all times. Some of them smoked on break, but I never found a cigarette butt on the ground or smelled any smoke. I never had any trouble communicating with them, and a supervisor, sometimes Lynette or her father, came to check on progress every day.
The job site was kept clean and organized (which was crucial as I have two toddlers who wanted to run around the yard in the evenings). Emails and phone calls were immediately returned.
Any issues we had were always addressed. One night my husband noticed a board that was perhaps a millimeter or two shorter than the others, and he wanted it replaced. He emailed the supervisor and the next day the supervisor rang my bell and told me the guys would replace it later that day. Knowing that my husband can be over the top with perfection sometimes I asked "Is this really a problem?" and I was told "No. All the ends have to be caulked and this would be as water-tight as the rest of the boards, but if your husband isn't happy with it, we'll replace it. No problem." The only time we asked for something to be moved and it wasn't was because the frame of the house prevented it. Anything else was fixed to our requests, no hassle and no questions asked.
The price of the work was exactly what was specified in the contract, except for $235 worth of plywood that was used to replace sheathing that was rotting under our old siding. But even that extra amount was discussed right upfront as a possibility and we were told how much extra we could expect to pay if sheathing had to be replaced. So there were no surprises during any of the process.
Our project budget is done for a while, but when we have to replace our deck railings, we will be more than happy to call Homescapes again.
