Steve, the technician, is wonderful. The problem is Chuck, the owner. Chuck has the same business ethics as the lawyer who flies cross country and charges him for five hours work while during the flight he does work for another client and charges him for five hours work, thereby charging two different clients full fee for the same five hours. Hydro Air came to do work in both mine and my neighbors house the same morning. After finishing the work at my neighbors in about 15 minutes the technician walked across the driveway and did the work in my house in about 10 minutes. Hydro Air then charged my neighbor for one hour of work and they charged me for one hour of work, thereby charging two hours for less than one-half hour of work. I called the Hydro Air office several times to try to discuss the charge with the owner, but I never received a return call. After more than 10 weeks I gave up and paid the bill, but I will NEVER consider using Hydro Air again and I have engaged a different HVAC contractor for future service.

In mid-October 2016 Hydro Air sent a letter to all of its customers that do not buy oil from them (I'm one of them) what was essentially an ultimatum: buy your oil from us, or we are no longer providing you with off-hours service. This was effective immediately - no warning. I attempted to have a dialogue with the owner (Chuck Lamprey) indicating that HVAC customers can't really have one company service them during business hours and another one for emergencies - this just wouldn't make sense. I also complained about the timing (right at the start of the heating season) and suggested that perhaps they could try to convince us non-oil customers to come onboard vs. a take-it-or-leave-it attitude. Plus many people have already made a commitment to another oil provider. I got nowhere (it was clear to me that they only want customers that buy oil from them) and I'm now looking for another service provider. I understand that there are many oil companies that do not service equipment if they don't provide the oil. For these other companies that is a long-standing policy. Hydro Air started as a service-only company and then added selling oil later, so there are a lot of us out there that are service-only customers. I would suggest that if Hydro Air wanted to join the other companies that require oil purchases that they do it much more gradually (over years) and perhaps "grandfather" in long-standing service-only customers.
