Alterations/Sewing/Decorating
OK, so ordering my formal mother of the brides dress with jacket online was a terrible idea...  What was I thinking?

When it arrived I tried it on I knew I couldn't wear it. The, (ahem) "unusual" construction of the dress and jacket made it incredibly heavy and the fit was so poor I'd have been embarrassed to wear it . With little time and even less money to find a replacement I asked an acquaintance if she could recommend a " really good seamstress". Thank goodness she had Carolyn's number.

I called and explained my situation and was able to get an appointment the next day. Being new to NH I asked for directions and we found it without any difficulty. The shop is very clean and tidy and has a private curtained changing area. I was impressed to see the number and variety of sewing machines present as it reassured me I was dealing with a "professional" rather than someone who does a bit of sewing on the side.

I tried the outfit on and we discussed the weight and fit issues. Carolyn was able to show me how she could alter the jacket for a better fit with less weight/bulk but with the gown's odd seaming she needed to "get inside it" before saying what could be done with it. A few days later my dyed shoes arrived so I brought them along for what I expected was a "first fitting".

I was so happily surprised to find the outfit was finished! I tried it on and was so relieved that the excess weight was gone and the fit was so much more flattering. I would have taken it home with me then but with the shoes Carolyn thought the hem needed a bit more adjustment. No more worries...the dress was going to work!!

My daughter shipped her gown 1500 miles to NH a few weeks before the wedding. The gown's skirt was basically just layers and layers of filmy chiffon that needed to be steamed and fluffed out. I asked Carolyn if she offered this and she explained why "hand pressing" was preferred. It must have taken her and her assistant a great deal of time and effort to individually press each layer by hand but it looked amazing when we picked it up! When the bridesmaids arrived 2 days before the big day their satin gowns were badly creased. Called Carolyn and they were back to showroom perfect in a day!

I would highly recommend Carolyn's Valley Tailor Shop!
