I am the "owner" of two Pugs-- ages 10 and 11. Sampson, the oldest, has become too scared to climb the stairs. As such, I went looking for "carpet treads" to put on my 100 year old hardwood steps. In keeping with the architecture of the house, I wanted treads that matched the rest of the design of my home. Locally, my search came up empty. I did find some offered at a local hardware chain, but they would only be suitable for stairs going to an unfinished basement; and others at another chain hardware store which had to be custom ordered and not terrific quality. I then searched the web. My first (several) searches left me unsatisfied with what was out there. My last search was much more successful as I found rugdepot.com, a family owned business in Nashua New Hampshire. They have hundreds of options and the staff (several family members and a couple of non-family... who I'm sure are probably treated as such) were extremely helpful. Many of the treads are offered as sets, already made. However, I have three landings and needed to ask about the possibility of having these custom made out of the "same" carpet. Mike went out of his way to check their inventory of uncut treads and offered me an excellent price on the steps I needed as well as the three landings. I had previously spoken to the owner (also his wife and two daughters) who advised me on some very good quality carpets with design he knew I would probably like. I ordered them last Tuesday, and I had them Saturday-- delivered in the morning by FedEx! WOW, fast! The quality of the carpet is superior; as is the finishing around the edges. I will definitely purchase from rugdepot.com again; and have spread the word to two dog listservs that I belong to recommending them.
